Larry, I'm pretty sure that if Claremont was allowed to have Angel as a permanent member of the Xtreme team, he would have portrayed Angel in a more positive light in X-pose (and IIRC, he wasn't portrayed all that negatively in that mini series).

I don't remember reading that Claremont asked for Warren for Xtreme. He wanted Beast, but Morrison wound up taking him. I think he was getting last choice, after Morrison and Casey.
I didn't say he was a villain in Xpose, but the sympathies were not with him. Not the way I interpreted the series. You cited it as an example of him using Warren as if it was in a good way.

Larry, I never said Claremont asked to have Warren for Xtreme, though I do understand where you might get that impression based on the way I worded it. I was speaking hypothetically.
I know you never said that he was a villain in X-pose. I ONLY cited X-pose as an example of Claremont's desire and willingness to use the character and that his portrayal in X-pose wasn't all that negative.

But in the context of showing how much Claremont likes him/uses him well. I don't think he's portrayed in a paticularly favorable light in that series. He used him what twice in 40-50 issues of the series? And that's proof of a real desire to use him?
I'm not claiming he overtly dislikes the character or has a tremendous reluctance to use him, but in the context of his entire history with him, he sure doesn't seem to be a favorite by any means.
It's like saying he wrote a lot of Uncannys with Xavier and that he wrote him as the lead in Excalibur. Doesn't change that he wrote the character out of the book a couple times and wanted to kill him for good in 1991.

Well at one time he wanted to kill off Wolverine, until JB showed him how cool the character could be. So maybe he has changed his mind in regards to both Angel and Prof X.

I never said it was revealed that Cable was Nathan Summers. I said it was all but stated he was the same person while Claremont was still on the book, and I stand by what I said.
Nathan as a baby was infected by a techno-organic virus in the same places Cable had his armor plating. He was then sent into the future by Cyclops and X-Factor and Cable, of course, comes from the future. And all of this was even before the launch of the second X-Book and Claremont was still on UNCANNY.
So, while not explicitly stated as such, I maintain that Cable's identity was strongly hinted at while Claremont was still in the driver's seat of the X-Men.

So basically it was determined while Claremont was still
there (not by him however and not something he intended)
but not revealed until after he left

Wouldn't it be cool if JB did his X-Men forever and it started after #143. Ooh, Kitty, Wolverine, Storm, Cyclops.
Oh please. I think I want this more than new Next Men.

I agree with Brian on this, even though the whole Nathan-virus-future thing was done in X-Factor, partly written by Claremont. I think Lee and Portacchio were plotters at the time? It was stated MONTHS before the revelation that that X-Factor issue was Cable origin in most price-lists at the time. We even talked about it in our weekly gatherings, so yeah, it was planned, Chris was in on it, but I have no clue whether it was his idea.
As far as how Smith drew Madelyne, I think both JB and myself were referencing the very first time she appeared, that single last panel in X-Men#168. In subsequent issues it is plainly said that she is a Jean Grey look alike.

I believe Claremont only scripted those X-Factor issues.
Anyway the futur of the baby is still open, and since Claremont wants 161 to be different from 616, i don't think he would take the same road.

What the heck are 161 and 616? If they are realities, I am going to have a fit! This numbering annoys me to no end. I mean, Dr. Strange and the FF have traveled through dimensions for years and some people use an arbitrary numbering system from a third rate character's book like Captain Britain that makes no sense whatsoever. I apologize to all the people who have accepted and/or use it but I strongly think It's just one of the dumbest ideas of all time.

Heh-heh 616 is the official designation of the main marvel universe.
161 is how Claremont and the fans call the Forever continuity. That is not official.
It is just a way to say that Claremont intend it to be the opposite of what happened in the main Marvel universe after his departure.
Forever is his vision for the X-Men and is meant to be true to the spirit of the 80s X-Men.
