From Marvel's own copy advertising the trade, bold mine:

"Peter David returns. Hulk smash! Stalking across the depths of the ocean, dispatching everything from sharks to giant squids, comes the Hulk. As a long-buried episode from Bruce Banner's youth begins to surface with possible ramifications for the future, the Hulk finds himself washed up on a strange island, populated by several hapless victims...and some most unexpected monsters."

What did folks think of the early 1980s series The Savage She-Hulk? I've only read a couple of issues, but it seems that Marvel hadn't really nailed down the character yet. Anyone have any thoughts about that short-lived title?

I liked it... and own every issue!

I, too, enjoyed the first She-Hulk series. I'm going to have to hunt those down.

I thought that they had a cool name, but couldn't nail the concept down in the first series. Simply felt to me like they didn't think it through far enough before they started.

I do thank JB for setting everything up for much better results.

In regards to Marvel's copy advertising the trade, it's just a selling point to draw in readers. Once you read the story in it's entirety, you see that it was pretty much all controlled by Nightmare...as he confesses to in issue 81.

Regarding the new She-Hulk stuff...as much as I enjoy PAD's writing, I trust that JB would have done a much better job.

Dare to dream!

I really enjoyed the first She-Hulk series (still read it now and again).  Of course, I liked a lot of the series back then (Power-Man, Spider-Woman, etc.).  Probably my favorite time for comics personally since I was really getting into them at that time.

For anyone interested in She-Hulk's original series, the entire 25-issue run is collected in Essential Savage She-Hulk, Vol. 1. for $16.99.

Issue #1 of the new series has sold out and gone back for a second printing, so I'm pretty pleased about that.

No, he decidedly does not.  He doesn't confess to anything.  He says what Banner knows may or may not be true.  He doesn't ever say "Hey, I screwed with you!  That never happened!!"  It's intentionally left open.  Again, shitty story.

I was a fan of Savage She-Hulk as well, but thought the character really came to life when JB brought her into the Fantastic Four.

Hadn't seen Roger Stern's take on her earlier, so wasn't aware of how he'd laid the groundwork for her evolution as a character; to me, JB was the guy who made Jen Walters more than a distaff knockoff.

Who do you think should play She-Hulk in a movie? All I can think of is the wrestler Chyna. Although I think her pefect role would be the version of Wonder Girl from Kingdom Come. It's gotta be somebody famous, and also buff and little muscled bulk.
