Well not in his mind for sure.  I just used that word for lack of coming up with anything better.  Misunderstood visionary maybe?

Depends on your definition.  He sure wasn't benevolent though.

As much as I love the Jim Starlin version of Adam Warlock, I think the best artist for him was this guy - Gil Kane! -

Thanks for sharing those pages, Robert.  I don't enjoy Kane as much as the rest of you.  But after listening to others on the JBF talk about Kane, my appreciation for him has definitely increased!  I like Kane's musculature on his characters' arms, legs and abs.  But the only thing that still seems odd to my eyes is the way Kane draws noses, especially the nostrils.  I am not saying anything about anatomical correctness.  They look well done.  But for me, I don't like staring up someone's nose!  Anybody have any thoughts on what effect Kane is going for when he tilts his characters heads back and flares the nostrils?

I'll always like Starlin's Warlock the best: both story and art!

Kane Romita and Adams are my three favorite Silver Age artists.

I like Kane so much because his illustrations have POWER like Kirby's, but he also had such a good handle on drawing anatomy (see the example below).

The b&w white reprints of his Green Lantern and Atom stories in the recent Showcase Presents reprints are just amazing.

Which Warlock costume is your favorite?

I tend to lean towards the red and black variations.

Dan - I love Starlin's art too.  His early work seems to have a lot of 'heft' to it - and while the characters may have more bulk than his later work, but I think they're more visually appealing.

Good point, Robert.  But what do you think about Kane's portrayal of the human nose/nostrils.  Is it something you notice when you view Kane's work?  Or not so much? For me it's the first thing I see, and a bit of a distraction!  Maybe if he didn't shade the underside of the nose so much I wouldn't notice.  Just me I suppose! LOL!

I also think Angel Medina and Terry Austin did a nice Warlock!  I like this version of Warlock's costume (red and black) the best.
