Hercules' sidekick, Amadeus Cho, is always claiming to be the 7th smartest person in the world in the Incredible Hercules. In Mighty Avengers, he admitted that he was probably 8th when Hank Pym showed his genius.
Who do you think that 7 smartest people in the Marvel Universe are?
My opinion (in no particular order):
1) Dr. Reed Richards
2) Dr. Victor Von Doom
3) Tony Stark
4) Dr. Hank Pym
5) Dr. Hank McCoy
6) Professor Charles Xavier
7) Dr. Bruce Banner

I'd say that's probably a good list, David.
However, I'd be inclined to flip #1 and #2. I actually think Doom might be just a hair smarter than Reed based on pure intellect (Reed has even admitted that a couple of Doom's inventions are beyond what he could do). But Doom's fatal flaw is always his ego - Reed has the humility to admit he might be wrong, whereas Doom's supreme self-confidence usually proves to be his undoing.
And while Bruce Banner undoubtedly is a smart guy, he rarely gets the chance to truly show it. More often, he's living like a homeless person or running one step ahead of the law. If we are talking actual achievement, versus intellectual potential, I might be inclined to put someone else in that spot.

It's kind of a preposterous premice when you try to compare people who are 'experts' in their fields like Dr. Leonard Samson, Dr. Bruce Banner and Matt Murdock. Who's to say a geat lawyer like Murdock is or isn't smarter than a great Psychiatrist?
That being said there are so many criminal masterminds (like the Mad Thinker, the High Evolutionary and the Leader) it's hard to come up with a definitive list.
I guess a list of the top 7 (off the top of my head) would probably have to include Richards, Pym, Von Doom, Stark, Banner, the Leader and the High Evolutionary.
Still, introducing a character as the 'seventh smartest person in the world' is a little ridiculous IMO, but arguing over who the seven smartest are is kid of fun...

I think Peter Parker belongs on that list...but my knowledge of the Marvel
Universe is limited to books done by JB, Jack/Stan, Steve/Stan, so my
knowledge may be a bit off.

I'm curious as to the textural evidence for Blake being particularly smart. He
was a doctor, to be sure, but that's a specialized kind of knowledge, and
would not necessarily put him in league with a Reed Richards, Victor von
Doom or Hank Pym -- those guys who have "degrees in science".

I concur with Bruce. That's a great list but I would flip one and two. However, I disagree with Bruce's comment about Dr. Banner. I think he would be #7 on that list.

Wasn't Doom kicked out of school after the accidental explosion (that Richards caused of course)? Often wondered where he got his doctorate from.

Incidentally -- "in the Marvel Universe" tips the scales a bit. With characters
like the Watcher and his race, the Kree Supreme Intelligence, various cosmic
beings like Eternity, etc, we'd run up a list of seven before we got anywhere
near the poor, puny human race!

Doom is self taught -- and the title self-awarded!
