I liked how, over the course of these two issues, even though this was a "street-level" fight, the idea of Spider-Man being a little out of his element was handled well.  I particularly liked where he accidentally webbed Colleen's sword.  I've had days like that too!

Kevin, that sounds positively filthy.

One of my all-time favourites from that era.

My only problem Flavio, is that you're scanning the Marvel Tales reprint and not the original MTU pages.
I've spent so much time staring at/studying the MTU version that the colouring on these pages is really jarring. (I own these issues also, but I mainly stuck with the other) What a difference!

Either way, thanks for posting this in the first place!
This is great stuff and I love it. :)

JB, did you and Chris have any actual plans to end the Steel Serpent in the actual IRON FIST book? If so, how much was changed when it became a MTU two-parter?

Looking at this old issue again, I can see why (a) Mr. Byrne disses his art on it, and (b) why I love his art on it. It's a bit like listening to a classic double-LP of the rock era (say, the White Album or Electric Ladyland) where there are a lot of 'flaws', which are unmissable in light of greater achievements, but which are nevertheless part of the appeal of the whole, which is rather greater than the sum of its parts. (Or maybe I over-analysed it.)

Agree that the colouring is awful on this re-print. Yee-uck!

The killer image here is the kissing panel -- that looks fantastic! I always knew Mr. Byrne was a romantic at heart...

Steel Serpent always struck me as a character that
Spider-Man should've been able to handle by himself, and
not need a team up. Spider-Man should've been able to
knock him out with a punch to the back of the head
unless he'd gotten so use to pulling his punches for
fear of killing normal humans.

But, he wasn't a normal human. He was to be Iron Fist before Danny came onto the scene. So he was an esceptional martial artist. Couple that with the fact he had the power of the Iron Fist and you can see he was more than just a normal human.
