I like the way JB drew the Yellow Jacket blast effect.

Two things about this issue always stood out for me.  Jan in her nightie and Yellow Jacket blasting Equinox out the window.  I must have drawn that blast scene at least 50 times or more when I was a kid.

I tried to buy the original art of the blast page several years back, but, unfortunately, the owner wouldn't sell.  GRRR!!! GRRR!!!

Flavio, thanks for posting this - I LOVED this run of Mavel Team-Up.

If memory serves, this came out in the early-to-mid-70's.  I was in high school/early college and had just gotten back into comic books.  This issue was one of the ones that drug me back into fold.

Say what you will about the raw art and plot holes - this was a fun, exciting read.  JB, your rendition of Jen/Hank's relationship (adult without being raunchy) and Jan's cold fury on the last panel really hit this out of the park.

Thanks for the memories.

The inking seems to take away some Byrne-ness. But the lot that remains is great early stuff! Love the page 2 Spider-Man and the "bshram!" pages.

[Since Raimi, I can't look at Spider-Man even partly unmasked without wincing!]

Kind of interesting to ponder the timeline Chris Claremont was considering:

Spider-Man recalls here in MTU 59 a battle from MTU 23 as taking place "a long time ago," a battle of which the Torch told him "a couple of months later." Hmm.

MTU #59-60 are my favorite Yellowjacket & Wasp stories.

I wish everyone else could write/draw them so well.

Or even half as well!

Hey, love that shrink effect for Wasp. Did you ever use that again, JB?

I don't know, but having the Wasp threaten to kill anyone is slightly funny. I mean, I dig it, but I can imagine a supervillain fighting even harder than usual NOT to die at the hands, or stingers, of the Wasp. Talk about inglorious ends.

And yeh, Equinox the Thermo-Dynamic Man is now my favorite character name.

I collected the Claremont and Byrne stories as reprints in Marvel Tales.

Good stuff.

Why the skip of JB's 1st three MTU issues?  Heck, his 1st is noteworthy just for the fact it was his 1st published X-Men.

Was never a fan of the Dave Hunt inks. I much prefer the later inks by Wiacek and DeZuniga.

"Strange "inking throughout. Cheekbones all over the place. It's nice that Spider-Man has to pull up his mask for coffee. Impressive splash explosion. Young JB already had it all, he just needed to hide those Ditko influences a little.
