Thought this would be the thread to ask, does anyone have any recommendations/advice on the type of glass to seek out when framing a commission?

The place where I used to get my framing down called it "museum glass" which was supposed to be UV resistant. I don't know if that was a real term, brand name or what. Cost a little more than normal glass but not a prohibitive amount as I recall.

UV resistant glass might be overkill if the piece won't be in direct or even well lit areas bathed in sunlight, but if you can find it reasonably priced its most likely better to be safe with your babies. Plexiglass is the most inexpensive version which allows the UV protection films to be sandwiched more easily and cheaply than actual glass. If you go through American Frame you will find the up charge on UV protection for framing is fairly inexpensive. A 10x12 piece of art went up roughly $12 when I upgraded from Standard Acrylic to UV Non-Glare Acrylic. The size of your piece will dictate the extra cost, but their service should give you an idea of what is possible.

Even though its more expensive I prefer to frame all my OA with Museum Glass. Museum Glass is UV protected but also have low reflectivity compared to just regular UV Glass. The low reflectivity makes a big difference with lighting in the room.

Sorry, JB.
Greg: This piece was more like 12x19 (vs 11x17), so had to go custom, anyway. Figured I'd throw some color in while at it. Saw the red mat on other commissions in this thread, liked it.
And the basement/rec room it's hung in has a lot of black and red in it, too (black pool table with red felt, etc).

I left the UK for Canada in 2012, my commissions following in a ship container some months later. Getting round to hanging them up in their new home has taken a LOT longer than I anticipated. The basement got flooded last winter and a long renovation ensued. And then I am lazy. Hung the first one up this afternoon and I think it looks pretty good in its new spot:
The amount of detail that JB managed to cram in still boggles the mind.
