I'd like to see a hybrid of the Golden Avenger (or whatever the second one in Robert's post is called) and the Silver Centurion.

I think IM was best as the golden avenger, battling Roxxon and various enemies like Blacklash and Porcupine. I, too, really like the silver centurion version for some reason, even though it isn't as streamlined as the golden version.

My favorite era was Michelaine (SP?) and Layton's second run with Mark Bright. I've finally gotten their first run and that's in my To Read stack for this year.

I had a discussion with my brother over how Guardian was superior to Iron Man because he had miniaturized the technology to the point of it being like cloth. My counter-argument: they both get you from point A to point B, but you get more chicks with a sports car than with a Volkswagen.

I'd say Iron Man is more of a Humvee than a Vee-Double-U!

I'm a fan of the "red and gold with pointy mask" Iron Man armor.

While I liked the Silver Centurion version, it was quickly apparent that many artists couldn't draw it correctly. JB nailed it in the Hulk and FF issues. Mark Bright was great as well. However, look at Al Milgrom's rendition in WCA...he looked like a transformer in those issues. The streamlined red & gold was a bit more forgiving.

Does anyone know who designed the Silver Centurion version? Was it Doc Bright?

I think Bob Layton helped design that armor. I know I heard that Mark Gruenwald, editor of Iron Man at the time, went to several people for designs. Gruenwald wanted a semi-samurai feel to the armor, which explains some of the bulk in the shoulder and helmet. The Silver Centurion design doesn't look like samuari armor, but once you know this you can see its influence.
I am not sure if the final version was "all Bob" or if he used someone else's initial design as a base.
It's funny. I can't remember anyone actually using the term "Silver Centurion" when it was actually being published.
