I like the serial format. It's what originally drew me to comic books and something I really enjoy month over month. I have always found it a little strange when people tell me that they wait for a whole miniseries to hit the stands before they read it ... I love getting to the end of a book and wondering what will happen next. When I read the last two Harry Potter books, I only read a couple chapters a night and enjoyed the anticipation every day. Same goes with TV-on-DVD ... I will watch one or two episodes and then set it aside for another day rather than blast through a whole season in one sitting. That's just how I work.
All that said, I can see how some stories would work much better in the longer format without the 22-page restriction. I guess the equivalent would be an epic movie instead of episodic televison -- some plotlines simply lend themselves to sustained storytelling.
Count me in on Next Men being continued in TPB format. Heck, I would be happy to pre-order the books and find them on my doorstep every six months for a couple of years.

So, no Lucrezia? +++ Um, that´s all right. You might want to have a look at Milo Manara´s recent BORGIA book, though.
He´s done two volumes, already, teamed-up with Alejandro Jodorowsky. They´re bloody great. The focus is more on the life of Pope Borgia, but Lucrezia plays a substantive role.

Brendan ...I agree as well. the popularity of TPB also has to do with our society's need to "have it all right now".
I would love for JB to release the Next Men as a TPB because like it has been mentioned before...the Next Men is a saga and not as much as an opened ended comic book like Spiderman

JB do something! I don't care if it's Lucrezia, Elizabeth, Charlemagne's
Mother or an obscure empress from Byzantium... I would love to read and
see you take on the architecture and fashion of distant ages -and of course
reading it!-, come on... even a sci-fi adventure taking place in any of those
ages could be great!

I've mentioned before... I prefer the TPB format. I don't have the space to store boxes of books like I did when I was younger. TPB's, Phonebooks, Graphic Novels, I can put them all on a bookshelf.
I still have the nostalgia of riding my bike to the drug store to buy the next issue.... but that was almost 30 years ago. Now I've got kids and bills and too much to go to the comic shop once a week.... or even once a month.... so, I'm left with TPB's....
It used to be that I knew when I could "miss" a week at the LCS.... now, who knows when... or IF the book I might be looking for will be there when its supposed to.... or ever.
The only stuff that shows up when its supposed to has been JB's. So I buy those. And the TPB's of his stuff.

I think that if you have the idea to tell a novel length story in comics, then releasing it as an OGN/Stand Alone TPB is the way to go. If you are planning a serialised story, like most comics, then singles before collected is fine.
Comics are a great medium because they do give you the option to present your story in the format best suited for it.
Whether it sells when not released as singles first, well that's a different discussion really.

For mini series, I definitely enjoy the OGN format better. For an infinite ongoing, monthly is more fun.

Another good example is Adam Warren´s EMPOWERED. It is now a series of trade paperbacks!
And the interior art is...
