My family and I have a 9 month old black lab who goes through chew toys on a weekly basis.  The chew toy that we got her today is just a solid, hard rubber toy.  She's already got it to the point where it's going to fall apart in a day or two.  My question for you dog lovers out there, what's the best chew toy that you've found?  Have you found something that keeps your dog busy and doesn't fall apart easily?

Thanks!

After exhausting a variety of commercial options, I found years ago that the
best chew toy in terms of play potential and durability is an old sweatsock
stuffed inside another old sweatsock, with the outer one knotted.

Downside, of course, is that this toy tastes and smells like a sock, so it is
impossible to teach the dog which is the toy and which is a still-in-service
pair.

There's this nylabone thing called a Galileo.  Impossible to destroy.  I even had a black Lab try for 6 years.

My latest doggie addition to the family, a beagle, loves the Kong!  They make a "King Kong" for big dogs.  Never seen one of those get destroyed.

When my dog Buttercup is introduced to an "indestructible" toy, she rolls her
eyes, chuckles softly, and proceeds to rend it asunder with great glee.

Consequently, she now gets whatever is on sale in the clearance bin at
PetSmart. The good news is that she has an uncanny ability to distinguish
between her stuff and ours.

Strange that you'd ask this and I, a current non-dog owner, have some info!

A friend of mine has a pit bull, and he would take a tennis ball and pop it and tear it in two in a matter of minutes. I went and bought him a solid rubber ball, brand named KONG (and the dog's name is King, believe it or not). I got it at Pet Smart, and it cost $10, but the dog, despite all his efforts with those powerful jaws, hasn't done any damage to the ball in the two weeks he's had it. It's one of his favorite toys now.

My dogs have several KONG toys, but don't choose to play with them if they have another option.  Nylon ropes are a favorite around here, as well as any toy made from hemp -- like firehoses, etc.  They take a good long time to destroy and they're chewy (unfortunately, the dogs don't get stoned...)

Socks -- especially dirty socks -- disappear out of the hamper and appear all over the house... somehow...

My good dogs LOVE to do something "bad" and then come show me what they've done, as if I'll be proud of them for it.

Labs are chewers -- and they're very good at it.  We go through cheap toys almost constantly.

What about those edible hide ones? Our dogs used to love to delicately undo the laces on the ones shaped like shoes!

here's one not mentioned. My dog loves to play with an empty 2 litre soda bottle. It's light, easy to toss around, and makes apparently a rather pleasant noise.

The edible hide toys can be dangerous if your dog swallows them.  So it kinda depends on your dog, and your fears.
