QUOTE:
Man Without Fear was great. I wish Jr. would reprise Daredevil.
Not that he can't draw other characters well but, to me, DD just seems like
his character. |

The Nocenti/Romita Jr/Williamson run on Daredevil is one of my favourite
examples of "regular"* superhero comics of all time. I rate Uncanny X-
Men higher because of the sheer volume: I enjoyed it through
Cockrum, Byrne, Cockrum again, Smith, Romita Jr, Silvestri ...
My memory may be faulty, but I seem to recall Claremont disappearing
unceremoniously and being replaced by Fabian Nicieza and some
combination of Kuberts (no disrespect intended!) which marked the point
at which I packed UXM in ...
But I pretty much followed JRjr from UXM to Daredevil. I think I need to
try and track down a copy of that Modern Masters volume as well ...
Cheers!
Jim
*By which I mean, your classic superhero ... an actual, honest-to-
goodness, smack in the middle of mainstream superhero book,

Ferran what's the story about Romita getting fired from X-Men? I don't know anything about that.

JRjr is an artist of surpassing brilliance. His Daredevil is my all-time favorite, and his Spider-Man is probably my all-time favorite (the only serious competitors, for me, being his dad and John Buscema).
Besides, by all accounts, he's a consummate pro and a great guy, and he keeps getting better and better.
I'll hunt down this Modern Masters volume pronto, and thanks to JB for the tip!

In summary, he was asked to do the Punisher/Batman crossover, so he
asked for a month off the X-Men regular series, but once the crossover
was finished, they didn't allowed him to come back to the series because
Madureira was discovered.
As you can imagine, he was not too thrilled to learn this way that he
didn't have the support of the editor and that the assistant editor wanted
to get rid of him from long time ago.
I recommend to buy also Rough Stuff #3 since I have the feeling that the
interview included in MM is a continuation of RS, which took place a year
ago, and it also covered the same items.

Michael,
Sorry, I can't help you about the bundles since I don't have them.
BTW, if you just discovered MM, be sure to purchase the one focused on JB.

Really enjoying the Modern Masters. Favorites so far are JB, Walter Simonson, and JR JR.

They look really affordable! I can see a half dozen easily right off the bat, and that means I'll need to pace myself a bit.

They're really very good, Mike. I just finished JB's one.
They're kind of a "gateway drug" though. Tne artist will talk about something that you might not have picked up (and of course there's a picture of the art) and you think "Oh. I have to get that!".
I read Perez - must get Teen Titans, Wonder Woman...
I read JB - must get Blood of the Demon, Doom Patrol...
Gateway drug!

Actually, Ferran, the interviews were done totally independently of one another. Bob did his interview for RS in mid-2007, and George did the interviews for the MM book between December 2007 and April 2008. The interviews feel pretty different and I think there's only one piece of art that is duplicated. Yes, there is a little of the same ground that is covered, but that is rather unavoidable and there is very little repetition.
And speaking of which, thanks for all the complimentary comments about the book. I'm very glad you all seem to like it.
As for that thickness in JR's work you refer to, John, personally, I think it's a bit of Janson rubbing off on JR. They've worked together so often, I would be very surprised if Janson hasn't influenced him in some way, sub-conciously or otherwise.

What's everyone's favorite John Romita JR run?
Mine is his Thor work, but Daredevil and Iron Man (Armor Wars 2) are good
runners-up.
Definitely the best artist working at the Big Two.
