JRjr's work on the Punisher/Batman artist was very good.  If he went over to DC, he could be the Batman artist.

I DO see the Kirby influence more and more as time goes by and I DO like Kirby's work.  I can also see the weight conveyed, but certainly not to the level of Big John Buscema.

And to be fair, JRJr. has never had the issue with ladies' waists that Leifeld has.

How about that for trying to "get it"?

Well, it's progress, Brad. And, yes, NOBODY draws with the weight of Buscema, but JR comes closer than anyone I've seen.

Really it comes down to what you're looking for in an artist. If you're looking for classical figure drawing, then JR's not for you. I really like his figure drawing personally, but JR's biggest strength lies in telling the story. And let's face it, he hasn't always worked with the best writers. He's worked on some great stories and with some great writers, but he's had more than his fair share of clunkers he's had to draw. Yet he always seems to make the best of what he's given. That's the mark of a great comic book artist.

Ferran,
I was going to post the #308 cover, since the original resides in my
collection along with all the interior pages but three (still searching for
those).

Besides maybe John Buscema, JRjr draws people 3-dimensionally better than anyone else in comics. You really feel that his figures are real.

Brian,
You're the king on Scott/Jean related stuff! I hope you don't mind that I
posted the cover borrowed from your CAF gallery.

For whoever interested, here you'll find the interior pages he was talking
about: Link.

Don't miss the rest of his collection! It's worth the visit!

Looking at the JRjr stuff in B&W in Brian's CAF gallery really brings out the
Carmine Infantino influence in his work, especially on those X-Men 308
pages...

The composition on that Spiderman/Hulk cover makes me weep. Amazing.

That is pretty awesome.  Love the poses Jr. gives to Spider-Man.  McFarlane's got nothin' on that (if he indeed has anything on anyone).

I met John Buscema back in 1999, and he told me then that he was a huge fan of JRjr and Buscema thought JRjr was the next Jack Kirby. Take that for what you will.

Well, personally, I think Kirby "outweighed" Buscema.  Romita Jr. is at least Buscema's equal.

 QUOTE:
To me, the human figures in JRJr.'s art are so out of proportion as to give Liefeld a run for his money.

I definitely see where you're coming from, Brad, but my explanation for that is JRjr makes a stylistic choice based on his actual knowledge of human anatomy, while Liefeld actually thinks people are shaped that way!  In other words, you know JRjr could draw perfectly proportional people if he wanted to, but Liefeld could not.
