JR Jr. is easily my favorite Spider-Man artist.

power, they really communicate something. |

Agreed. JR Jr. may not produce the most beautiful art, per se, but I think no one, besides Jack Kirby, packs a greater punch.

Ron, he has yet to do a full comic, but he did do a pinup of Superman (which I can't find).

As do I, though a case can be made that it's not the most gorgeous (i.e. I didn't mean to suggest that his work was unattractive; faulty wording on my part).

In this MM, did JRjr mention again how his working with JB and Frank Miller were among his favorite experiences, since both gave him so much leeway in telling the story his way?
It can't be a coincidence that the 2 guys he mentioned were artists themselves.

Jinny, JR, Jr. praises both artists and says positive things about working with each of them.

A sample of this praise to JB was when he commented how pleased was to
learn that JB placed JR jr's name before his name in the credits of Iron Man,
as a acknowledgement to his work in the series. JB was also pioneer on this,
too.

In an interview, I mentioned that I gave JR three page plots for 22 page
stories, and in one plot actually set up the pages so he would turn and fight
only the word FIGHT filling the whole sheet. This prompted one
padicular writer to chide me for "typing" rather than "writing". To which I
could only respond, "Perhaps YOU feel you should tell John Romita Jr what
he should draw -- I don't!"

"Perhaps YOU feel you should tell John Romita Jr what
he should draw -- I don't!" ------ Well, as noted, he appreciated that. So when both the writer and artist are happy with their arrangement, anyone who complains about it needs to take a sip of this...

JB wrote: "I'd be very happy if someone told me I was going to draw like Johnny when I grow up!"
Well, JB, I for one am even more happy if I get the both of you doing your own particular style as good (and even better) than you both are at it now. I certainly enjoy JRJr, but I wouldn't want a JB-less world either, if you know what I mean.
David F. wrote: "It's a crime they haven't reprinted his complete run on Daredevil."
Agreed. I remember that one of the early "stray issues" I got a hold of in original, when moving towards shifting from reading Marvel in Swedish to getting what interested me in imported comics, was an issue of DD by Nocenti and JRJr. It was an issue in the middle of a story, DD wandering a round in Hell and a weird (but amazing) JRJr version of Mephisto hanging around. I'm not sure that I ever got to read the preceding or succeeding issues in the story, but man did I like the issue, and in particular the art.
Incidentally, while I enjoy early JRJr (admittedly more so now than back when I was young), I think the "thicker line" JB mentioned is just awesome and what I've seen of his later stuff is ever so much more appealing to my eye..
Anthony wrote: "What's everyone's favorite John Romita JR run?
Mine is his Thor work, but Daredevil and Iron Man (Armor Wars 2) are good runners-up."
There are so many things by him, like Thor and Iron Man, that I've not yet had the chance to read (sadly), but I am really truly a sucker for the Man Without Fear mini. There's just so much good stuff going on in those pages, and I'm so glad that they ended up doing it as a mini rather than a prestige format one-shot or whatever it was the original plan was (my memory is a bit off right now). More JRJr pages just seems such a good idea. :)
Vinny wrote: "Well, as noted, he appreciated that. So when both the writer and artist are happy with their arrangement, anyone who complains about it needs to take a sip of this..."
Well said, Vinny. And I think it helps for a writer (whether artist or not) to know WHO the artist is. Not only to come up will plots that will allow the artist in question a good starting point for what he does, but also to give the writer a bit of confidence in what to expect as well. Being a non-artist, I'd most likely write full scripts for a couple of ideas I have mulling in my head (if I ever get around to working on those ideas), because I wouldn't know who (if anyone) would ever draw them. If I knew it was someone I didn't hold in strong regards in terms of narrative pacing or such like, I might also opt for a full script, or at least fuller plot, so to speak, whereas if I knew I would get somebody of quality like JRJr, JB or Perèz I'd give them a looser plot pointing to things I felt was really important to be in there and then let them run with and see what words were "required" at the end. On some level I can't help but feeling that Marvel style scripts (in the most extreme form) requires very good artists and also writers who can comfortably trust their artists to be that good (and preferrably somewhat in sync with them I guess.

My favourite is Daredevil but Punisher / Batman got me wondering me "What if JR Jr did a Batman series?"
