Here's a volume well worth owning. Packed with drool inducing art from across a wide
range of JR's career. A fascinating portrait of his growth from Really Good Clone of his
Dad to Top of the Game. (Frankly, how anyone can look at his current work and find
anything to fault is beyond my comprehension.)

Only complaint --- out of all the compliments and flat out praise I have sent his way
over the years, the interviewer managed to find one phrase that, lifted from
context, might sound vaguely derogatory (I referred to him as the best to come along
"after me"). Fortunately, Johnny sees right thru that nonsense, so a potentially
unpleasant moment is avoided.

If you're a fan -- and if you're not, you should be dammit!! -- this is a Must Have.

I'll second JB's sentiment that this is a Modern Masters volume worth
owning. I particularly enjoyed seeing the Spider-Man pieces drawn by Jr.
and inked by Sr. and the big Thor and Hulk stuff.

I've been a fan since Daredevil (and that's still my favorite work of his) so I'll be sure to be picking this up.  I think that was the point he really started to shine (of course, having Al Williamson on inks didn't hurt).

I don't think there is nothing to fault in his work, but it's really just minor stuff, basically.  I do think that he seemed to mail it in for The Last Fantastic Four Story, though, but that's a rare misstep.

Back in the stone age, when I was buying a ton of marvel/dc product, I remember when JRjr started on the X-Men, and I remember thinking that his stuff was just *awful*, now, years later, I look at his work and I'm boggled that it's the same guy - I'll be checking this one out for sure.  Thanks for the heads up JB!

I thoroughly enjoyed this as well.  I actually bought it at SDCC at the Twomorrows booth, than ran into JRJR and talked with him and his son for a good 15 minutes. Nice guy and very personable.  Afterwards I realized I had the damned book in my backpack and forgot to have him sign it.  Ah well!

JR jr is one of the very few artists capable to make me buy again the
Spider-Man book post-OMD (One More Day arc).

I follow his work after Dazzler #1 (inked by Alcala!) and Contest of
Champions. His run on DD inked by Williamson was one of my favourites
runs ever!

I just received my copy of MM, and I'm looking forward to find time to
read it. Allow me to recommend you Rough Stuff #3, also focused on JR jr
which was released last year. You can find it here:
Link.
(I have no comission).

I agree, this is an awesome book! I love looking at his pencils and storytelling. He is such a great artist. I would love to see him tackle DC's top three!

Sheesh!  Considering all the praise you have given to JRJR on this board and that is the only quote the author decides to use?  I completely understand your frustration.
