Ran across this page about a comic that will print two previously unpublished stories bv Roger Stern and Dave Cockrum: X-POSITION: Dave Cockrum Tribute.  The page has quotes from various comics professionals on their thoughts of Dave Cockrum.

Interesting to review this thread 12 years later!

Working on ELSEWHEN, I have become increasingly aware of how "Disco" so many of Dave's designs were. Not in any way a complaint or criticism. An observation on something I did not notice in the original context. Time and place, after all. (As I sat there reading the books with my long hair, bushy sideburns and bellbottom trousers!)

Brings me around to that itch in the back of my mind, wanting to change Storm's costume in ELSEWHEN.........

That disco aspect is even more notable in his Leigon designs - though I guess it's early enough there that it's more 'aquarian' than disco.  Is it possible he was influenced by Adams and 'Warp!' in that regard?  I'm not familiar with any of Cockrum's pre-Legion work so I don't know if that was always a part of his design ethos.

Also: thanks for resurrecting this thread - I don't think I saw it the first time around, and it's dang cool.

While I love the designs by Cockrum, I feel if you want to change things, JB, you should go ahead and do so. I am curious as to what design you would come up with.

I would very much look forward to a new costume for Storm by Byrne.  This would be very interesting.

(as long as mohawks are avoided - natch)

((that drastic change always troubled me))
