Cockrum's designs did all have a certain similarities -

Yeah....and Thunderbird's design was one of his best. The perfect blend of Native American garb and super-hero costume. Too bad it didn't get much use!

Anyone know offhand which of the LSH costumes he designed?

Something about Cockrum's art in X-Men didn't click with me. Some of the issues it looks like the figures do on a widescreen tv when the image is stretched to fit the screen - especially faces.

In the drawing you uploaded, he designed the costumes of Colossal Boy, Duo Damsel, Phantom Girl (my all-time fave Dave costume), Shrinking Violet, Star Boy, Chameleon Boy, and Lightning Lad. He also did redesigns for Element Lad, Princess Projectra, Karate Kid, Shadow Lass, and Timber Wolf (featuring the hairstyle he recycled later for Wolverine). And of course he designed and co-created Wildfire.

So basically everyone except for Bouncing Boy, Brainiac-5, Cosmic Boy, Invisible Kid, Mon-El, Saturn Girl, Sun Boy, Superboy and Ultraboy.
And Sunboy, Ultraboy and Saturn Girl all have that "Cockrum look" to them if you ask me.

Heh, yeah, it would have been quicker for me to list the Legionnaires he didn't redesign rather than the ones he did. You left out Light Lass, Dream Girl, Chemical King, and Matter-Eater Lad though. Dave also didn't do new costumes for them, although M-E Lad was miscolored red in one of Dave's issues and readers thought that was an intentional redesign.
I was thinking the same thing about Saturn Girl, that her costume does look very Cockrumesque, especially with those characteristic thigh boots he loved to use. But it was actually a reader design which debuted several issues before Dave got the Legion gig.

Really interesting the link that Jason posted on the creation of the New X-
Men. At last I could take a look at Jean Grey's "Go-Go costume":

This is a sketch that Dave drawed for a fan recreating the "Go-Go costume".
It's owned by Richard Donnelly.

From the UXN article:
"On the right, there is a pin-up that shows Phoenix in the way Dave
Cockrum had envisioned her. Years later, however, the white Phoenix
costume ended up being used, namely for a few scenes when the character
met Death in the afterlife or when she entered the so-called “white hot
room.“ These scenes can be found in Classic X-Men #43, X-Men Forever #3
and X-Men: Phoenix - Endsong #5."

Dave Cockrum was a fan of the Marvel Family characters, particularly Capt. Marvel Jr. This rendition of Jean makes her look like a fiery-haired aunt of the Marvel Family who rarely visits since so many of the older members disapprove of her...
