Modesty?

JB, while the Capt. picture you posted does look different, if you can picture the pants green ALA Golden Age Lantern, then oddly they seem ok. I wonder if some of it is just that we've been conditioned by past experience?

And I'm not suggesting that our Captain wear green for anyone trolling...

Colossus and Beast are visually unique without a costume so I don't understand the need or desire to cover them up.  Visually speaking it doesn't make sense and practically speaking it doesn't either.  All of the other designs(except for maybe Cyclops) are just too busy.  In fact, he didn't really "design" anything from what I saw.  Just added gadgets and widgets to already established designs.  Storm's costume is a good example.  Oh, if there was only some way to put big, giant "X"'s on all of them so I knew who they were.

Why would the most outcast, non-super hero, non-public group of heroes have such an overwhelming use of a logo?  This isn't a S.H.I.E.L.D. team or Hydra.

It's all about the pouches and straps these days.

I hate pouches and straps!  But I think they were much more prevalent in the early 90s, along with mullets and trenchcoats.  Still, that didn't stop the most recent Steve Rogers Cap from sportin' the belt pouches...

I don't have ahard time with puches or straps. Everytime I see a cop or a SEAL or some such, they're wearing puches and straps. I always assume that superheroes need the same stuff they're carrying.

"I always assume that superheroes need the same stuff they're carrying."

-----

That would be fine if the pouches were ever used, but that rarely happens. Remember the Jim Lee Cyclops outfit? Did Cyclops ever once pull something out of one of those pouches? A cop needs places for his ticket book, notepad, handcuffs, weapon, ammunition, as well as personal items like wallet and cell phone. Does someone like Cyclops carry any of those?

Back in the 90s, during the first reboot of the Legion of Super-Heroes, all of the Legionnaires had exactly four pouches on their belts. In those pouches, they carried their Omnicoms (like an iPhone), transparent space suits, and telepathic ear plugs. Those I didn't mind, because their purpose was clearly defined.

The thing that amuses me most about the new Captain America design is the fact that, in addition to his weapons and assorted pockets, Cap is now carrying a canteen. Now, I know that soldiers do in fact carry canteens, and I know that superheroes must indeed get thirsty doing their jobs, but adding a canteen to Cap's equipment merely draws attention to the fact that no one else seems to need them. If Spider-Man can get by without carrying a water bottle, what makes Cap so prone to dehydration?

All Jim Lee basically did was add a strap across Cyclops' second costume, remove the skullcap and modify the boots.  The strap's only apparent function was to secure an X to his chest (I say apparent because for all I know Cyclops used it for something later).  Whatever the case, it was ugly.

To Lee's credit, he didn't eliminate the trunks.

He also put about a dozen pouches on Scott's belt. One pouch I can understand (lens cleaner); twelve indicates a design choice.
