Nikki Finke writes some very good Hollywood insider articles, mainly on the business side. She has a very interesting article on DC Comics:
"A Reboot of DC Comics Before Comic-Con?"
I hope this isn't too off topic.
(sorry, I hope the link is fixed now).

If we're talking strictly business, I don't get the big deal. Sounds like DC is run by cowards, bottom line. Fire Didio and find someone who will insist the writers fix the problems at hand. Create a through-line for the company. DC has the best characters in the world, bar none...what it needs is STOP pandering to fanboys and high-profile hack writers/artists.

DC Comics needs to get back to the basics and start telling stories instead of marketing a big event. I don't want anymore reboots or relaunches either. Every time some writer wants to take the book in a different direction you don't need to relaunch the book with #1 all over again. Tie up all these Crisis related plotlines as quickly as possible, end that damn Rann/Thanagar war, and get these characters back to what they should be. They can stop writing for the trades too. The fewer issues a story takes to tell, the better - one issue stories should be the norm. Get people working on these books that actually like super heroes and lighten things up a little. Require your writers and artists to adhere to a deadline. Stop assigning "Hollywood" writers monthly series. Don't ignore continuity, but don't be slavish to it either. Some stories are better left forgotten. Don't launch a bunch of books that you know are doomed to be cancelled. Some characters are best left to the occasional mini-series (Doctor Fate, Aquaman, Deadman, etc). Stop killing characters for shock value - you've numbed us to that little tactic. Above all make the books fun - geez.
One more thing - pick a Legion of Super Heroes and stick to it.

There are huge changes afoot in the economy and it's inconceivable that the comics industry will not be affected. Things will look very different a year from now.

Yikes.
To paraphrase something Mike Hobson (Marvel's former publisher) said circa 1996, when Marvel was entering into the worst stages of its financial crisis, "When this kind of stuff spills over into mainstream coverage, you're f*%ked."

It's important to note that overall comic and trade paperback sales are
dropping. I think it's the combination of event fatigue and the economy.

From CBR article: http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=16895
"You know what's great about what we do?" Didio said. "I worked in TV before I came to comics and what's fun about TV and comics is that we get a chance to try again. Every month we get a chance to be a little bit better," he said, "and all this does is fuel us to be the best we can be."
Dan Didio is the most clueless individual I have ever read about. EVER.
And now I know why the man hasn't a single clue what he's doing up there...he worked in television. No offense to anybody working in TV now, but Didio is one of those TV guys Mark Evanier used to write about in his Hollywood columns in the back of CROSSFIRE. Simpering, pandering, directionless, rootless, and devoid of basic professional integrity. A tool, in other words.
