From the original. . .
How many times have I read that issue, and I did not register that line!! I
feel like I just stepped thru the looking glass!
Perhaps the fourth Skrull was needed to pilot their shuttle up to the
mothership.

It's saying something about the speed and ease of how these comics seem to have been made, for them to simply forget about a skrull until the last minute. I get the impression they had a little to much fun in doing this, and just winged it there for a while, before realising that 'hey, this is selling.. maybe we should take it a bit more serious...'.

Holy heck! I totally missed that bit of dialogue! Damn, those Skrull bastards are sneaky! Uh, mystery solved, I guess.

I still literally "lol" (ok, nowadays it's a chuckle) every time I read the part were the FF fool the super-advanced Skrulls with pictures out of old monster comics! I mean...even in the Marvel Universe, wouldn't they still have clearly been DRAWINGS!!!

That one at least I was able to cover, Robert, when I revisited that storyline
during my tenure on FANTASTIC FOUR. I established that Skrull eyes work
differently than ours do.

Skrull Kill Krew was just awful. Worst thing Grant Morrison has ever written.

That is saying something!

I'm presuming that Reed's " ...with the rest of his fleet " comment is Stan getting out of Jack getting his number of Skrulls mixed up?

It is actually a clever strategy of Reed's, to allow a member of the invading alien force to "escape" and report back to their waiting fleet that the advance party got their asses whupped by the native inhabitants, thus pre-empting a full-force invasion, and potentially saving millions of lives.
You're welcome, Stan; hope my check's in the mail...Ah, here comes Mr. Lumpkin, now...wait a minute -- isn't he retired? HEY! You're not Willie Lumpkin -- you're-you're -- A SKRUL-->*<

From the first issue with the Super-Skrull that I ever read, I've always loved Skrulls.
Reed really does come up with a ruthless solution to the Skrull problem here. Reed wasn't always that nice of a guy in the early issues.

Curious thing about this -- the issue was done "Marvel Style", plot, pencils,
script, inks, so I wonder why Stan would cover the missing Skrull in the
dialog rather than just asking the inker to add a Skrull? It's not like they
planned ahead in those days, so the absent alien was not likely to have been
the seed of a future plotline.

Maybe Stan only noticed very late on, and an add-on by the inker would be harder than re-jigging a word ballooon?
Or is Michael Andrew right, and it's not a mistake after all?
