I'm pleased that the same-sex marriage issue has gone from a red-hot political issue in the 2004 campaign to pretty much nothing in 2008.

Its still early, Brendan.

Cynical, but probably accurate.  Look at the early reactions in California.  Hell, some county clerks won't even preside over any gay weddings -- as if that's their choice to make!

Its funny Tom, I'm not usually cynical but on this issue I am.  I really hope it won't be an issue, but it just seems like it really could be.

Isn't there a suit right now to stop the California marriages pending the proposed amendment to the CA constitution?

Congratulations Tom and Eric. I hope things work out and you have many years of happiness together.

[Grumbles - I wish there had been some stupid law in place to stop me getting married - would have saved me a fortune]

Late to the party, but congrats, Tom.  You couldn't look happier in your pictures and it really feels like you've got a great support system of friends.  So important.  A year, eh?  I've been with my girlfriend 4 years as of a couple of weeks ago and I'm only now trying to find a way to pop the big question. You're a fast mover!!

On a serious note, living here in California as I do, I certainly hope the idiots don't win in overturning the ruling.  I'll be in the voters box, as I always am, making sure to do my part in casting my vote in favor of same sex marriage if it should come to that in November.

Best way to pop the question is the heartfelt way Matt!  Congratulations on thinking about joining the Army that has never won a battle!

Matt,
for what it's worth, my proposal was somewhat impromptu and took us both by surprise.

I was sitting on the floor sorting some old comics and she was reading a book on the couch when I looked over at her and suddenly couldn't imagine living my life without her.  She looked up at me and smiled as if to say "what?" and I said "Let's get married."
She was stunned to day the least.  She said yes I got her a ring and the rest is almost 13 year history.

Go for it man!  Smartest thing I ever did was to ask my best friend to marry me.

Same here.  My life is better for having Kelly in it.  Also, I think she's a stone cold fox!
