Let's ask the Spartans.

***

Or any army in the history of humankind. There's never been a time gays weren't good soldiers, whether out or in, simply for being gay.

In the history of humankind, there's probably never been a time when gays didn't exist either.

Random thought: I've read articles suggesting that the percentage of male gays is about 7-10% in any given population. I have also read that the percentage of redheads in similar populations is a pretty steady number over time

Wonder why, if same-sex orientation is genetically-based, there haven't been studies indicating whether gayness can be transmitted like hair color from generation to generation ... or whether same-sex orientation is a sort of recessive trait like blue eyes or blond hair.

Or whether such a genetic profile is, I dunno, an unpredictable mutation.

I fear that if a homosexual or bisexual transmissible gene is ever identified, that f*ckheads will start testing unborn babies. If such tests were available today, what would the army be doing? Passing out q-tips in recruitment centers?

The insidious side or arriving at a scientific truth, huh?

Then the question would be: if you're a Xtian extremist and you find out your fetus is gay, would you abort it?

Not that that would ever happen.  No matter how much evidence is shown that homosexuality is genetic, these religious nuts refuse to believe it.  That idea doesn't fit into their narrow-minded view, so they'll never accept it.  If they did, they'd have to repeal DADT and DOMA.

HAHA, I read that as "G-zus" rather than "Hey Zeus" so that was one heck of a theological question there, Al!

Al Cook

Curious:  Are you gay, Jesus?

I don't think so. I don't fancy men for sex despite growing up reading about handsome and muscular superheroes in tight outfits.

That being said, I did pop a couple of boners watching gay porn once, but it was during an extended dating drought so all bets are off.

Up to about 10 years of age, I was a bit of a mamma's boy along with being bookish, nerdy and non-athletic. More than a few times I got called f*g from across the street. From 10 years of age on I started adding humor to my repertoire so my behavioral mannerisms became merely excentric.

Got approached twice in high school. Last time it was an invitation to share a shower during the prom by one of my buddies. DAMMMNNNNEEEDDD if I saw THAT one coming.

Got appearance and weight conscious in my middle 30's and served a tour of duty as the resident metrosexual at least 8 years before the term came into common usage. Don't tell me girls aren't attracted to guys they can share diet and exercie tips with.

I am fascinated by the alienation that gays seem to experience in our world. It's part of a larger pattern of life for me. I got alienated from my father who tried to raise me old-style Spanish and macho. He resented me wearing glasses cause that meant he had to have defective genes. The Roman Catholic English and French children and adults in Montreal didn't cotton to my usurping the Lord's name -- another gift from my dad Jesus the Senior.

By age 7 some French speaking adult were outright calling me a f*cking wop -- more alienation for the majority class. The english kids thought I was frenchie, fatty, four-eyes, with the funny name.

Didn't fit anywhere so figured f*ck every body ... it'd just do what I want and becaome a culture of one. Schocked to find out late in life that many people felt as I did.

So, again, the alienation I hear coming out of the posts in this thread -- well camouflage by humor and intelligence -- strikes a chord that resonates for me a bit.

Sorry for the bio, but I like to give complete, contextual answers to complex questions. Thank God I'm not a teacher, I guess.

Jesus, the alienation you are detecting in the thread is what a lot of us gay fellows have gone through growing up...But gay boys and girls aren't the only ones who feel like they don't fit in, of course.  Some of us may still feel like we don't fit into society, even as adults.

I was the quiet, artsy boy in junior high and high school...Who kept to himself, which seemed to translate to some kids as me hiding something.  I was absolutely tortured in school, being called every nasty name for a gay person you can think of.  I didn't think of myself as gay then, even though I was attracted to other guys...I was denying it with every fiber of my being.

I never felt that I fit in anywhere, except in an art class...That's where I found my happy place.

Bravo to that mom, for sticking up for her son for wanting to be Daphne for Halloween.

I gotta say, that's a pretty sweet Daphne costume.  When I was a kid, it was a plastic mask with eyeholes and a bib-style overall bodysuilt with the character's picture on it, you know?
