Oh, come on people, let's not underestimate the human mind's capacity for repression and denial, not to mention reconstructing facts and events to be more... shall we say palatable? Of course, there was nothing homoerotic there to see, since people didn't want to see it.
In a manner of speaking, even current contemporary homophobic outrage could be seen as a milestone en route. After all, full-blown denial and repression no longer holds. The dam is burst, as it were.

Um... ya for the burst dam? Just had a coworker at work yesterday tell me doesn't agree with the gay lifestyle. I think that's like saying you don't like that grass is green. The discussion was civil, at least.

Well, if the dam is burst, the overflow will eventually end (here's hoping), so in that sense I am for what the burst will lead to in the long run. Besides, I'm not sure it's a bad thing if the opposition have to show their true colours rather than simply pretending that you don't exist, no?
I've never understood why it should be anyone's business in which manner someone is physically and romantically attracted to somebody else. As long as we're talking consenting adults, to whom other than the people involved should it matter?
I can understand people not wanting sex in the streets in a lewd manner, but then again, why differentiate between genders and sexualities? Same thing with someone coming onto you. As long as the person respects a "no", what's the problem? And if the person does not respect a "no", does it really matter, yet again, which gender or sexuality? It all comes down to respect for people's integrity and wishes, and why should anyone get a say in anything that does not affect them?

Or to use your co-worker as an example, Ed. Why should it matter that that person does not agree with "the gay lifestyle" (this obvious monolith (add three table spoons of irony)) as long as no one is forcing said person to live his/her life THAT way. That argument could also quite effectively be turned around: with what right should heterosexual people be able to force gay people to live as anything but gay people?
Or to quote the Levellers: "There's only one way of life and that's your own, that's your own, that's your own."

"Lifestyle", to me, implies it's by choice. Being straight isn't a "lifestyle" choice, but being gay is? What two consenting people of legal age do behind closed doors is no one's business. Just because I'm not getting any, why should I stop others? ;-)

Even if it was a choice*, it's still none of my damn business what 2 people do in their own house. *Making it very clear that I don't believe for a second that it is a choice. Although I'm sure all of you know that.

But it is a choice.
Its the choice to live as you were born or try to live a lie to please others.
And no one should have to make that choice.

I think that's that nice bit of envy for which our species are so infamous.
