Shit, Tom.  That sucks.

This is not a good time to leave a job in protest and you can't do a work slowdown while a teacher.

Get a lawyer?  Organize with the other people -straight and gay- in domestic partnerships.

Or take a page from Sarah P. and go rogue.

This is why gay marriage is NOT a state's issue.  In MY state, we have rights.  In Maryland, where I work, we have none.  How fair and equal is that?

Ed -- I commented to the headmaster and CFO that we have other gay teachers and gay families that attend this school.  Should we tell them that we don't recognize their relationships?  I think that would be fair.  We'll take their money, but not recognize them as legit, eh?

Ever notice how an instution always claims they don't do something before they reveal that they are in fact doing it.

Tom...

Maryland has an Anti-Discrimination Act, prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation in public accommodation, housing, and employment. The Act states that it, “may not be construed to authorize or validate a marriage between two individuals of the same-sex” and it “may not be construed to require or prohibit an employer to offer health insurance benefits to unmarried domestic partners,” but the Act as a whole firmly establishes that Maryland's public policy prohibits adverse treatment based on sexual orientation.

The Maryland Commission on Human Relations is the entity responsible for ensuring that Maryland's nondiscrimination laws are enforced. You can visit the Commission online at http://www.mchr.state.md.us/ or call 1-800-637-6247 for assistance. You may not have a claim, but a call might be worthwhile.

Best of luck!

Honestly, Tom - that sucks.  I'm amazed that gays continue to pay taxes.

Tom,  I'm sorry to hear that. I hope there is a way to somehow solve that situation.

Thank you, Michael.  I appreciate that assistance and link.  I'll get ahold of them tomorrow.

It may not be legal, but it's certainly hateful.  I'm just glad I'm not in HR for a living.

I'm sad to hear that Tom. In my front, thanks to that prick that stole our pics, people who hates my hubby have been using them against him. I can't write more, because i don't trust the 'net anymore on this matter, but i'm gonna say this...we have been witnesses of much hate and prejudice, but also, of much love, of people that loves us and accepts us...family and friends.

So, that's what i'm gonna be thankful this next thanksgiving.

You're most welcome, Tom. It's absolutely sickening what some people choose to do to each other. I hope something good can still come out of this.
