Steve:

Did you make the diamond in her engagement ring from a lump of coal? :o)

Also, she looks real cute, you're a lucky man!

Ah, but in the name of the dream of an equal society, Jodi, I think girls all around deserve to know that they have an equal opportunity and option of asking the guy.

Wow! That is indeed a striking bride, Al. And the fact that she looks like that and picked you despite your fottstomping proposal indicates to my that there's some wee bit bit of love involved here. ;)
And now you made me think of that wonderful scene in The Princess Bride when Carey Elwes tumbles down the hill side exclaiming "Truuuueeeee loooooooveee!"

Not to mention the fact that it looks as if you almost tore off her top in the process. And you did this in front of a bunch of people you said?  ;)

Eric and I were hiking in the Shenandoah Valley -- we'd booked a cabin on Skyline Drive (worth the view), which was tacky and fifties kitch and fun.  We hiked up this mountain side to this big ol' rock out-cropping overlooking the whole valley from WAY above!  I'd snuck a bottle of red wine up in my back pack and some crackers.  So we watched the sun set and all that and me, a little drunk, just sort of popped the question.

But he said yes faster than he probably should've.  I would've bargained better.

Waiting for Talley's comment.............................

Al your bride is lovely,  I love reading what you write about her it is so touching!

(and there is the strong possibility that she will turn Jodi...)"

This reminds me of a really funny story years ago I was watching a program and it had a country singer that was so hot, they kept the shot  only on the face thru most of the song, then they panned back and the singer had this old time glitter country skirt thing on and I thought wow that's pretty wierd, but hey I kind of like wierd. Well at the end they give the name of the singer "K.D.Lang".  I go to my dad who is into country music and ask him about this hot guy I just saw, well he explains K.D. is a girl.

Edited to add: I forgot to thank Marc for posting, that was both funny and painful.

Tom that is a great way to ask someone, very cool.

Tom (and everybody else) - which of you said "I love you" first?

This is a much nicer story...Julie and I had been dating for a month (exactly, our first date was September 9, 2000 and we were out having dinner for her birthday, which is October 9).  I had gotten us reservations at a restaurant in town called Tangerine, which has a faux Morrocan/Mediteranean theme and is really romantic.  So we're sitting there, waiting for our entrees, talking and holding hands across the table and the voice in my head is shouting at me "Don't say it!!!  You've only been dating her for a month!  You're gonna scare her away!" but I didn't listen to him...I looked at her, took a deep breath and I said "I know we've only been dating a month, but I am head over heels in love with you."  Her face lit up and she said "I'm in love with you, too!".  So we have that going for us, which is nice.

That was the date of my first date* with Kelly, too! Weird.

*We'd been friends for a year before the date.

Very weird - Julie and I had actually known each other for about 6 years before we started dating...more of casual acquaintences than friends, then one night we were out with a group of people and just "clicked".
