It was Christmas morning a few years back and my parents had come down to visit. Dad had bought mom a new wedding ring set and they offered her old engagement and wedding ring to me. My would-be fiance was off with her kids at her ex's mom's house, opening presents and when she got back I met her in the driveway. The kids went inside and I said "hey, so uh, were you serious about the whole getting married thing". She said "yeah.....?"

So I told her about the rings and basically said "ya wanna?" and that was that

Worst. Proposal. Ever

Yikes! That's a great opening to tell the tale though. Having read this bit I could sense the impending doom hovering over the whole affair.
It certainly makes a good yarn though. Something to tell your grandchildren about. Especially since there's a happy ending.

Well, at least she went into with her eyes open (and quite possibly a broken foot), Al. So at least there should be that. ;)

You should never resist that urge -- she was lovely.

Al - in reality, is there anything gayer than a wedding (gay or straight)?  You wear fancy clothes, you eat fancy food, there's dancing...

Post away, my friend...

-----------

Ain't that the truth! Anyone ever see Bridezilla?

I see it more like this...you wear itchy hot clothes you'd never normally wear,
you eat buffet style food, that you'd normally never eat, and there IS
dancing. Bad bad bad dancing... line dancing being the worst. I feel blessed
that I did not inherit the Electric Slide gene...

Al Maybe I will think she's hot and get turned on and have dreams of marrying her, thus making it OK in the Gay wedding thread.

Kidding, I love the fellas.

I have a worse engagement story.

Chuck and I had been dating for 6 months, living together for a year, my Mom the whole time harping "he was never going to buy the cow if he was getting the milk for free". So after a whole day of a fun filled visit with good ol mom. That night when we went to bed, just before he nodded off to sleep I ask "are we ever going to make this thing legal?"  He said yes and got all "excited" because apparently horrible marriage proposals and porn does that to him. :0)

Lucky for me we don't have girls that will ask "how did dad ask you to marry him?"

Well, some folks have seen this before, but since this is a wedding thread
(and there is the strong possibility that she will turn Jodi...)

I proposed to my girlfriend by singing (badly) a song called My Last Name by Dierks Bentley. By the end of the song I was crying, she was crying and everyone else was crying. Us because of the emotion and them because I was singing.

She said yes and then I nearly threw her through the ceiling.

(oh, and I should take this opportunity to congratulate Tom and Eric on their wedding, congratulations you two. Left my congratulations too long and then thought it would be awkward to join in, but this is one of my favorite threads and just decided to join in).
