When actually READING, not just looking at pics:
CHARLIE & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY CHARLOTTE'S WEB (1st time I cried reading a book, at 7) I've read ALL the HARDY BOYS books -- my grandmother had them, as well as: The entire TARZAN series -- by ERB They had GORGEOUS illustrations -- in pen and ink, like one every fifty pages or so -- PLATES, right?

Encyclopedia Brown was one of Jonathan's favorite books, great boys book.
Tom those Little Black Sambo books go for a ton of money now. I agree on the Green Eggs and Ham. If you ever get a chance to go to Universal in Florida check out Dr Suess Land, it is like you walked into the books.

CHARLOTTE'S WEB made me cry too, Stuart Little was one of my favorites. But my all time favorite reading books were the Little House books, with Anne of Green Gables coming in a close second.

I enjoyed some of the Berenstein Bears books growing up. "Green Eggs and Ham", "The Lorax" and "The Butter Battle Book" are some of my favorite Dr. Seuss books. I enjoyed some of the Bunnicula books when I was a kid. They were fun books -a good mix of humor and mystery.
Outside of that, I was usually reading books that were above my grade level - I was (and still am) a history buff, enjoy mythology, astronomy, etc. I was a real bookworm - participating in the summer reading programs at my local library. I may have been mocked by other kids for doing that, but I think those books helped give me a more well-rounded knowledge of the world and improved my reading skills.
Moyer, that sounds like a great idea! I love NYC and have so ever since I went to school in Newark - overlooking the skyline. September is an extremely busy time for me at work, so after that I should be more available. A meetup will definitely motivate me to step up my workout routine, curse you better conditioned people! ;-)

Jodi, those are awesome pics. I especially love that kind of architecture, so it's almost as you posted those for me.

Oh Man, don't get me going on children's books.
I like many loved Green Eggs and Ham. All of Suess's work was amazing.
Once I was reading...I never stopped but some bright moments for me:
Runaway Ralph...Imagination can make things real.
Charlotte's Web...First tears from reading. I still weep openly when the writing gets to me.
Have Space Suit will Travel...someone (probably Mom) introduced me to Heinlein's juvenile fiction and that led to...
A Wrinkle in Time
I still read many YA books, I say to help my wife. But, the truth is, I love them...They are some of the best stuff out there right now.
The Percy Jackson series....Think Olympian Gods brought into the modern world...great fun.
Alfred Kropp Adventures....James Bond meets King Arthur...action packed!
Looking for Alaska...deep and sad...
I just finished Jelicoe Road...and I was moved...great writing, a mysterie that is deeper than it first appears to be, and filled characters that you slowly fall in love with.

I always consider it a badge of honor that Dr. Seuss and I are from the same hometown.
Timothy Leary as well. Maybe something in the water?
