The worst date...mmm...i have two stories...

During my firsts years of collegue, i had my first date via-chat-room. The guy did study in the same university as me, was near and we settle for a date and time. When we met, i had the biggest surprise in my life. He wasn't as handsome as he claimed to be, he wanted to show off by using french language...

That date lasted 10 minutes before i decided that i wouldn't be with him. Made and excuse an left.

Tom I would also like to keep this thread going, how about this thread be like a "Lunch with a friends" type of thread?

And you  keep us updated on married life.

There are at least two kinds of bad dates: (1) because of the person you are with; or (2) what transpires on the date.  Sometimes you can have a confluence of the categories but either way it sucks.

Now I'm curious about Marc's world's worst proposal... You can't just say that, man, and then not say what went down. Curious people here, you trying to kill us or something? ;)

Well, Geoff, I think that bad date stories where the person's been alright but events have turned bad and thus created a bad event so to speak, can be kind of amusing... in the sense that I think a lot of people will have had such things happen with people they've stayed around for a long time, and as such the badness can turn into some sort of nostalgic-kinda-funny-in-retrospect-even-if-not-enjoyable-at -the-time thing. Like all too many army "boot camp" stories.

I barely know where to start when I try to tell the story, but I'll give it a shot.

Basically, I decided it would be a good idea to propose on my birthday, when we were out to dinner with our friends and family.  Now, Julie had told me that when I wanted to propose I needed to ask her dad for his blessing and I agreed to it, but in all the hustle and the bustle, I forgot.  Shmuck.

Now, we had been dating for about 10 months, but our parents still hadn't met, so this was going to be the first time her folks and her younger sister met my mother, her boyfriend and my brother (as well as a couple of my friends and some very close family friends) so tensions were running high, anyway.

Now, I'm thinking maybe I can get her folks aside by myself for a couple of minutes, apologize for not doing this more formally, and ask them for permission to marry Julie.  Quite honestly, at this point I don't know what the fuck I'm doing, because all I can think about is getting the ring in my pocket onto Julie's finger and I figure at worst they'll be a little ticked.

So eventually I get a chance to get her folks to the side (I think Julie had gone to the bathroom or something) and I said something witty like, "I'm going to propose to Julie tonight".  I think her dad may have actually gone for that, but her mom flipped out!  How dare I!  How disrespectful!  What about her brother! (who wasn't there and quite honestly couldn't give a rat's ass about us anyway).

Now I had a dilemma.  Go ahead with the proposal and risk further alienating my future in-laws or put off the proposal and try to figure something else out.

I put off proposing.

A couple days later, I swallowed my pride and went to their home to ask for Julie's hand, which they granted (why not, they now had my balls, right?).

The next day I get a call at work from my future mother-in-law.  She tells me that she and her other daughter were going to take Julie dress shopping and wouldn't it be nice if I met them at the bridal store to propose and give Julie her ring.  I decided "What the fuck" and so my grand proposal was in the parking lot of David's Bridal on Route 38 in Maple Shade, New Jersey with her mother and sister there and none of my family.

And then began the hell of planning our wedding....

I have a bad one too, my wife tells everyone about it because it wasn't the worst proposal event ever, it was the worst actual proposal ever

I proposed on a very rocky lakeshore. Very rocky. Rocks the size of
people's feet, for example.

So I didn't notice that I was actually putting my weight on my lady's foot
when I went down on one knee. I just thought it was another one of the
rocks. Other things on my mind, don't you know.

She had the grace not to say anything about it until after I'd stood back up
when she said 'yes'...

You know what they say, Moyer.  That that doesn't kill you....leaves deep psychological scars.
