Finally -- as if we didn't already know that...

Dang what's next after years of research and money, are they going to say, if you stick your finger in a fan it will hurt. :0)

Seriously it is so strange to think, there are still those that believe, being gay is like having a mental illness.

Well, it's progress - for years the discussion was "Queers - sick or just plain evil?"

Reminds me of my favorite John Waters quote: (praying) ...and God, thank you for making me Catholic so that sex will always be dirty...

My Australian friend Miles always says -- in his cute little accent -- "You Americans are all descended from Puritans -- sex is BAD!"

Sincerely offered.

More Arc:
"I think Brevoort is always nice to people so it's hard to think he meant that as a compliment. But it was about writing, he's never seen my sketches."

Ah, well then...  so, he'd merely know how you'd write a script... or a plot, or something.  Besides, I think Brevoort's advice is sound.  Unless somebody is hopelessly bad at any given thing, practice will if not make perfect at least improve, most likely.

Even more Arc:
"I got in touch with Brevoort by mail after I asked CB Cebulski when would Marvel plan to do a talent search for writers. They do it all the time but just for artist, and it's artists who approach Marvel most of the time. Seems like it's much harder for writers to get into the comics industry."

I think you're right in that, in particular the US mainstream comics market, opens up more towards artists.  For the obvious reasons.

And that link definitely isn't sending me to the right spot.  Was wondering why you referenced an article on why optimists are healthier than pessimists until I started seeing the comment below in the thread.

Joakim:
I'm not saying it's easy for artist, but you have a carpet , you let someone see your art and that's it. A writer doesn't anything to show and it's not like I'm going to force every editor in the world to read pages from someone they've never heard anything about...

Agreed, Arc.  Would never say it's easy, but given how we more oftenly see calls for art samples than writing samples (or idea samples for that matter), the game is clearly MUCH easier.

Sometimes these days it seems the only way into comics, as a writer (barring you're already in the business as an artist and manage to swing the back door), seems to be writing a bestseller, a smash hit TV series or a couple of successful movies.  Because, as we all know, mastering writing for those media by default equals having mastered writing for comics.  And new fresh direct desire to write for the medium... well it would be silly to tap that particular vein, right?

Just 40 days for our big day....

That is so exciting Juan!!!

Arc a friend of my sons wants to be a comic book writer and he does short stories and I believe he is going thru Amazon offering his stories for the Kindle. I don't believe at this point he gets paid, for him it is about getting his name out there. I'll see if I can find out more about how to do it.

Yes, and actually being a TV series writer or a Hollywood screeplay writer sounds a lot more difficult than working in the comics industry. If I were Joss Whedon, Straczinsky or Allan Heinberg I would probably have enough money to buy my way in. Say, I could buy 50 thousand issues of the whatever comic book I'm writing and thus ensuring the publishers that they would never lose money with me...
