Well, Tom, the presidential thread will probably fade eventually... and if we're only 140-150 posts or so behind... Ah heck, who am I kidding. ;)

I will just mention that I met my wife and ask her to marry me the first night we met. It was the night of Christmas 95. And she answered "yes but not right away". It was in Hong Kong and I was just a French tourist at that time.

Didier this was so neat it sounded like a pitch to a wonderful romantic movie. I loved it!

All these love stories are so sweet, that is why I don't understand the wanting to stop 2 people from making the commitment to spend their lives together. Love has such a universal sameness, I hope one day my youngest child will grow up and be amazed it was ever an issue.

This past weekend the guy that is living with us,( graduated this past May) he asked his girlfriend of 2 and 1/2 yrs to marry him. It was so cool, she came down and they went out to dinner and saw the movie Walle.

While they were gone I decorated the house with Twinkle lights and had a cake and punch waiting. He had called his family and hers and had them come here for the big moment. When they got back we hid in the family room, he had her close her eyes and sat her on the couch. We all came in very quietly and then he told her she was his best friend and the love of his life and would she honor him, by becoming his wife.

She looked at all her friends and family and started crying and said yes. It was so wonderful to be a part of this important moment. They are a great , fun couple and will have a wonderful life together.

I love the look on his face, pure goofy I am madly in LOVE!

Sounds very sweet Jodi. I always tear up when I see those cheesy proposals
on Americas Home Videos and such. It's downright overwhelming.

I know I am probably in the minority here, but I think that proposing in a
group situation is just not the right thing to do.

The proposee(?) is put under the proverbial spotlight, and of course looks
like a total bitch if she (usually a she) says no! Of course she's going to say
"yes" in front of all her friends, or his friends, or whoever is there to witness
it! Because then she'll be known as "The Bitch That Said No To Her
Boyfriend", FOREVER!

Gee Jodi.....I'd be smiling like that young fella too if I had my hands all over a pair of thighs like that.

Did I just type that? Lord, I apologize......

Talley she would giggle and be flattered

Moyer I agree on the big, at an event "will you marry me?" thing, but there was no question this girl was going to say yes, for the last year she had been sending him emails with the ring picture and ID number.

She is from a military family and they moved all the time, she and her family are extremely close, because of all the moving, her sister and her have almost like a "twin speak" .  I did ask her if it freaked her out to see us all there and she said it hadn't , that she was so excited he did it before her sister moved out to California, which she does in a week.

I'm not going to bore with the details (plus this is Tom and Eric's Happy Thread), but I do have the World's Worst Proposal Story...there were tears, there was yelling, there was obliterating the pain with alcohol.  And then we got engaged anyway, which led to the World's Most Painful Engagement Period.  Having gotten through all that though, the marriage has been worth all that.  But making a marriage work is work, don't kid yourself that its not.

Marc we are wanting to keep this thread long running, details please.

Plus you have made me wonder how bad it could be.

Which leads to a great question for the board, what was your worst date or funniest date?

I'll leave it to Tom's discretion - if he wants me to post the details I will, but I don't want to give too much build up and then disappoint my audience!

or funniest date?

----------

I had a workout date with this hot hot hot muscle boy I met out on the
streets of the French Quarter. Really one of the cutest guys I've met. Had
a voice like Michael Jackson though, so that was a bit of a buzzkill...

ANYWAY...

We went to workout at his college gym. He was a med student, so it was
a nice facility. Barely used. So one of his fellow frequent gym goers comes
to workout, and Kem (my date) starts FREAKING OUT that he is going to
be outed. Keep in mind, this is after he has already warned me that we
shouldn't be seen working out together, since two guys working out
together automatically confirms you are gay. I really didn't know what to
do. Apparently I look really gay. I mean my arms were just limp wristed
the whole time I was benching 185lbs...which at the time was 20lbs over
my body weight.

I did my best not to cause a scene...but after an hour of being deliberately
ignored, I walked up to him and demanded my keys from his locker. He
became extremely embarrassed that I "the queer" was even talking to
him. In hushed whispers he asked that I calm down, and just wait to his
friend leaves in which he will be able to talk to me. At this point I've had
enough and start yelling at him to get my keys now before I bust open
his locker myself. I've never seen a guy run so fast to get me out their
way. I've never felt so stupid in all my life.

I left the nastiest message from him, after ignoring his calls for a week.
He felt bad (apparently). I pretty much told him that one day, he really
won't give a shit if people knows he's gay, because people aren't stupid,
and they probably know about him anyway. Cutthroat...but I was pissed.
