They say they're not being prejudiced, just weeding out Risk GROUPS, an
expression nobody uses anymore. This, to me, will surely make straight
folks think they're safe from HIV infection and REEKS of prejudice.
This is completely prejudice and I don't blame you for being mad. I have a friend who found out her husband, who is a truck driver, was having sex with truck stop prostitutes for years. She is a nurse and is so upset at the risk she was put in. But because this guy isn't gay he can give blood freely, boggles my mind.
If they test all the blood that is donated then asking some of these questions would be moot.

If you have had sex with a prostitute in the last 12 months, you have a
temporary deferral. But the permanent deferral for gays is lame.

A gay friend of mine said on facebook he agreed with gays not being allowed to donate blood on account of our promiscuity. This is a bit of what i answered:
Give me a decent reason for gays not being allowed to donate blood..
If you tell me gays can lie about their HIV status, so can straight guys!
If we're promiscuous so are straight guys (hookers, swing bars, cheating husbands/wives, spring break...)!
If we do drugs, so do straight guys
If it's because of anal sex, straight people do it too!
So give me ONE decent reason. Just one..

That reminds me of a friend of mine that used to say that I should be happy all the time because guys are always horny and always want to have sex, so he knew I was gettting laid a lot (which of course, I wasn't) and since men are more intelligent than women I'd be meeting lots if interesting and smart guys (which of course, I wasn't). I guess sometimes straight people have the weirdest ideas about gay guys.
