I hope you have a good time, Donald. The weather has been nice the past few days, possible rain on Saturday but they have been way off predicting that lately.

Bruce, I did indeed! I had enough left over that so i had it the next day as well.
We used to go to North Carolina once a year to visit my dad's relatives and it was one of the only times we'd have fried chicken. (My mother said ti was too messy to cook, and she's right.) There was a restaurant we'd go to that served fried chicken and Brunswick Stew and the real NC style barbecue - no barbecue sauce, just vinegar.
I loved it.

Glad to hear it, Ed! There are certain foods that you just gotta have sometimes, and for me, fried chicken is one of those foods.
Where in N.C. do your dad's people live? Based on your description of the food, I'll wager it's in the eastern part of the state. Sounds like some good eating to me!

Bruce, my dad is from Johnston County just outside of Smithfield. In fact, part of what was once the family farm is now I-95.
My last name is alien in New England but it was nice to see that in that part of NC, it's fairly common.

those at least once a month.

That cabin looks great. How is the view from that deck?
It's incredible, William! The deck is about halfway down this beautiful waterfall, boulders courtesy of the glaciers.
Moyer, as hot as sex in the woods sounds, mosquitoes find me quite delicious (I'm the OTHER white meat). We had our moment on the deck by waterfall, but even then, I was glad to be back inside later...

Ed, that's a good part of the world. Johnson County is really growing fast these days.
Aycock is a fairly common name in eastern N.C. In fact, North Carolina had a Governor Aycock in the early 20th century. There's a dorm at my alma mater (Wake Forest University) named after him. Perhaps he's a relative of yours!
Tom, I hear ya about the mosquitos. They're awful this time of year. I painted some crafts with the boy in the back yard the other night. Even though we used bug spray, we still ended up with a half-dozen mosquito bites between us.

We normally have mosquitos really bad down here too. Very obnoxious, hey I
live in a swamp, they'd have to be right? Well it's been very oppressively hot
lately. Its always hot in the summer, but it's been scary hot. Record temps.
We can count on daily thunderstorms to cool us off a little, but we haven't
been getting those. I swear there are zero mosquitos right now. Normally
when I step outside, especially at night with the pooches, I have to swat
them off constantly. Hasn't been the case in a few weeks!

That's what Eric said!
LOL
We have nasty, ghetto mosquitos here -- they wear gang colors. But clearly, Moyer, you're getting all the heat there that we're NOT getting here! This is the nicest, humidity-free summer I've had since I moved to the area in '89!

I echo that, Tom. I've only been here for a few years, but in the past I've had to crank up the central air in my apartment. This year I was at the Pentagon with some friends and it was very calm and cool. Ideal weather for watching the fireworks.
