The question becomes when is it meant to be helpful criticism and when is it meant to tear you down and build them up.

I know. Well, in this case the guy is not just a teacher. He is writer, has won a number of awards and is quite prestigious. A couple of years ago I submitted some of my work in a short novel thing (10000 bucks award) he was the jury and he didn't like anything of what he read. No award was given. The same contest goes on this year and again he is the jury.

Jodi,

You're very sweet to say so! I wasn't bad as a young man, but as I said, I
have put on some pounds as the years have gone by. Granted, my
hopeful insistence weight does not make someone "ugly" keeps me sane
in the face of contrary opinions -- but, I am certainly not happy with my
appearance right now. It's going to take some hard work and discipline,
and I can only hope I am up to the challenge.

I am tall (6'1-6'2) so I carry the weight well, but as I approach 40, I can
definitely feel it taking it's toll. Harder to get motivated, more winded,
strain on my back (a BIG one), etc.

I appreciate all the comments and suggestions put forth thus far.

I have a very personal question for everybuddy on this
thread: do any of you suffer with body issues (being
overweight, for example)?

Opposite problem, but it still sucks. Never felt I was
ugly, but never really felt attractive either. I'd actually
try harder if I didn't feel losing my hair too didn't
negate any improvements I could make to my body lol, so now
it's all just about doing what is healthy it's never too
late to start on that.

Hello everyone!

I'm gonna need help here. Last week i finally got a Visa to visit USA. We are gonna flight to Minneapolis in September to visit my partner's family. Well...we are so excited about this.

Now, the thing is...my partner asked me the question yesterday....and i said "Yes".

So, now we want to get married in Iowa... Some insight or web pages to review will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Congratulations, Juan!  Still amusing that Iowa has their eyes open and California, well...

Juan, you may want to read this.

It details some of the requirements and changes regarding getting married, including a three-day waiting period.  Best of luck.

First of all Congratulations Juan.  I am so happy for you and your fiance'.

As to question of Body Image...never really had a problem with weight...until I got married, and then it started creeping up there...fast forward a few years and I quit smoking and now...well, I am overweight.  It doesn't bother me from a perspective of body image...(my wife and I are probably too forgiving in regards to that). However, I do want to start losing weight because I don't want my health to be at risk...

I trying, but...I'll keep you posted.

On a different tack, I will be off the board for a few days, still be using facebook, as it has an app for my iphone to use.  My wife and I are travelling the west coast to promote her book.
Portland, San Fransisco, and San Diego.  She has several interviews to do.

I'll post more when we return...

Cheers,
Don

Congratulations Juan Jose! That is very exciting news!

Have fun on your trip Don. I had forgotten, did you wife ever come out here
to New Orleans? I recall you saying she was going to come here a while back.
How did that go? Do you need a personal assistant for your trip? I work
cheap and even give back-rubs.
