I think it has to with the original pagan celebrations being the celebration of the summer solstice (i.e. the opposite point to the winter solstice, or midwinter, if you will).  The actual date, at least from what I gather from Merriam-Webster seems somewhat tied in with Christian tradition and the nativity of John the Baptist.  But the original bit should cover the basics.

In all honesty, and unless my memory is shot straight to hell,  I merely called for a name, suggesting a Jodny or Podi (or similar) and the actual credit (much as I'd like to claim it) belongs to Moyer, though I swiftly did proclaim it the perfect name for them and henceforth have advocated the term.
Credit where credit's due and all that.  =)

Oh Dog!  With Talley already having invaded my sleeping dreams once, I don't need these kinds of images for future reference.

Al-so wrote (in response to Talley):
"Oddly, they were the ones where you were half-naked from the waist down
instead of up. Wearing a red checkered flannel shirt. I still don't know why
those were the ones that Jodi insisted on..."

Oh my Dog, I ain't never gonna be able sleep now, am I?  Ever again.

Nor look at George Lucas quite the same way... ever again.

Though I'm now starting to wonder...  If those are the pics Jodi's after...  She seems to have not only a Lucas fetish, but a Lucas/Chewbacca fetish.

How many of our gay members in this thread wish they could be fathers?
And how many of you actually are, or are working towards it? How hard is
that as a gay man? What kinds of challenges do you have to face to
overcome?

How do you deal with wanting to be a father, and feeling like it's an
impossible desire?

I have never had any desire to be a father.  I know myself well enough to know I wouldn't be a good father and have no paternal instinct.  Probably an unpopular opinion, but I don't even like young children all that much.

Except in a cassoulet.

But seriously,  I have some friends who do and have become fathers but I don't know that any of them felt it was an impossible desire- they just adopted.  Thankfully, none of them live in states with gay adoption bans.

not impossible. Just "a bit" harder than for straight folks.

I don't really feel an urge to be a father.
