First and foremost, a thanks to everybody involved with the JB Forum who are kind and compassionate and let us gay boys, friends, allies etc. keep this thread going.

I have a feeling we wouldn't see that on too many other comic book sites.

Thanks to the usual gang of idiots that have made this 300 pages of relative nothing possible.

_______________

I'm glad to see I'm not included in the idiots list. After all I'm not a regular poster yet. But I will accept your compliments, anyway.

Just because I have no luck with women, why should I stop anyone else from being happy?  Growing up in WMass, very little was discussed regarding homosexuality, not until high school anyway when AIDS was talked about in health class.  Probably wasn't until I went to college in NJ, outside NYC that things became a lot more apparent.  Getting to the Christopher Street stop on the way back from the San Gennero festival is plenty of education!

Ah, but are you old enough to remember the National Enquirer's 1992 article on Northampton?  "Strange Town Where Men Aren't Wanted!  10,000 Cuddling, Kissing Lesbians Call It Home!"

Ed, I remember some rather crude jokes about Northampton being the ideal place to go in case of a flood.  Looking back, it is appalling at some of the remarks that were made in jest but are downright cruel.

I do admit being a bit confused when reading some books on Greek history.  A great deal were bowlderized, but the ones that weren't, well let's just say my family didn't quite know how to handle those questions.

Since I was someone who got picked-on when I was younger, I guess I never really "go after" any particular group without cause since I sure didn't like being pushed around, why should I do it?  If someone's a jerk, they're a jerk regardless of ethnicity, orientation, etc.

I'm nearly a decade older than you Jeremiah, and I learned to laugh at jokes like the one you cited above but man oh man, being a young gay kid who was learning he was gay at the age of 10 in 1981-82 right when this "gay cancer" was hitting the news was frightening.  I can take roundabout jokes like the Northampton one, but AIDS jokes remind me far too much of that horrible era.  Who here remembers the punchline to "What does gay stand for?"

Bleh.  Since we're celebrating on here, I will say that much to the Religious Right's disdain -as they'd hoped AIDS would be the last they'd hear from us - it only made the community stronger and aware that we had to fight.  Hence, the same-sex marriage battles.
