Ed, did you get your Saturday Morning Cartoon set yet? My 4 year old can't get enough of them. And I have to admit, as goofy as they are, they bring a lot of happy memories of Saturday mornings in front of the TV with a bowl of Count Chocula.

Will, you must mean my complete boxed set of "Masterpiece Theater" because otherwise I have no idea what you're...

Kidding.  Yes, I got mine yesterday.  I just have the 70s volume which - oddly enough - makes a mistake on the Main Menu and refers to an episode of "Josie and the Pussycats" as an episode of "The Pussycats in Outer Space."  I have the complete "Hong Kong Phooey" anyhow, but love all those cheesy HB shows.  Amazing how many of them were just blatant copies of Scooby Doo but only Scooby became the cultural icon.  The Filmation "Batman" was an interesting addition.

And to keep with the gay theme, I just got Season Five of "That Girl" last week and I completed my collection.

What ever happened to saturday morning cartoons, I guess they are on at all hours so the networks decided to stop showing them, which seems so sad. I wish they would bring back Bugs Bunny, I love Merrie Melodies. Jackson loves Tom and Jerry and I think he would get a kick out of Bugs.

This is cool, I love how the crowd reacts.

I remember how the networks would usually have a prime time special each year that would preview the new Saturday morning cartoons.  Oh, we were so excited for a new crop.

Saturday morning cartoons...what an event! Smurfs, Super-Friends, Snorks,
Mon Chi-Chis, Pac-Man, Scooby-Doo. Those were the days! And a big ol
bowl of Captain Crunch Crunch Berries! The roof of my mouth would be raw
all day...

Though I was just a little thing, I remember my brother and I singing the Hong Kong Phooey theme- I was maybe 3.  (I have an excellent memory.)  I remember "Jabber Jaw" and all the Scooby incarnations, the Laff-A-Lympics, Pebbles and Bam Bam.  But I remember being really excited for "Challenge of the Super Friends" and being really annoyed that the week it premiered was the day our mother took us school shopping at Sears.  Dammit.

I remember all the Hanna Barbera stuff you mention Ed, but not as Saturday
morning cartoons, but mostly when the USA channel was a young network
and would play them in the evening, which was very cool back then!

And most of the mid to late 80s tunes were just crap-tastic...anyone
remember Turbo Teen? He turned into a car. Laser-Tag the cartoon,
Captain-N, which were such product placement toons. I remember ALF had
a pretty neat cartoon too. I saw crap-tastic, because they were really crappy
animation wise, but so endearing too.

My personal fave was Speed Buggy. Moyer you need to look for the Saturday Morning Cartoons: The 70's. Great way to relive your childhood. Funky Phantom, Goober And The Ghost Chasers, etc.

Just fun stuff.

It's on my list, Jodi -- but have to wait until after the school year is ended on June 5th.

To me, Scooby Doo was and is the Gold Standard of Saturday morning cartoons. But only the original episodes - none of this Scrappy Doo garbage.

My son watches a variety of cartoons on Noggin and PBS (Dora the Explorer, Go Diego Go!, The Backyardigans, Martha Speaks, Little Bill, etc.) Curious George is by far my favorite of these "little kid" cartoon shows.

Moyer, most of the cartoons you listed were from that evil 80s period when most of the cartoons were product placement for toy companies.  Yuck.  The 70s had crappy animation but at least they were somewhat original.  It seemed that in the late 80s, thanks to a variety of factors (and Roger Rabbit) that animation strived to be fun again.
