I thought I would share what the college kids are saying on facebook about what happened in CA today. Here are some status posts by Jon and some of his friends. Maybe as these kids get older and gain more control, we will see a better day.

"I only support prop. IG-88, which prevents people from marrying robot bounty hunters. They have no rights, in my opinion #rejectprop8"

"California: Epic Fail."

I agree -- never thought CA would go backwards on that issue!

"New State Slogan: "Come Visit California! We Got No Money and No Gays Gettin' Hitched!" [ignorace is the worst] #rejectprop8"

"California, get it together! If two consenting adults want to marry, let them do it...who exactly does it hurt? #rejectprop8"

"i'm glad california is filled with incredibly stupid people, good job guys"

Growing up, California was almost like the promised land to me.  Sunny, agreeable, beautiful people.  I so hated where I was - and my god, it was Massachusetts.

I've changed my opinion.

I certainly didn't expect that kind of bad news from California.

Sorry, gang -- I was also away this weekend (went to Ft. Lauderdale -- what a dump!) so missed, like, three pages on this thread.  I'm busy churning out end of the year report card comments so be merciful with my terseness...

I tend not to join the political type threads because in person what would be a pleasant conversation between different people with divergent viewpoints quickly becomes a nasty, stupid, angry, rhetoric-laced wang fight when it's online.

Not that there's anything wrong with a wang fight when done properly mind you....

On this site there's one person whose opinion and manner I do not respect and because of that I don't respond to what he has to say. He seems incapable of having a civil conversation unless the other person agrees with his point of view. When he disputes what I have to say in an arrogant and dismissive fashion I have chosen not to respond because I know it will do no good. He won't listen, won't learn, won't stop, and I don't need the hassle. At times I've wondered if my policy of non-engagement makes it look to others like he's 'defeated' me and sent me back to my hidey hole or some such but in the end I just decided that others can think that if they choose to but I'd rather discuss but not argue, disagree but not be dismissive.

Well, I've been ugly in the past, and try hard not to anymore, but hopefully everyone knows that whether ot not I agree with you, I do respect your opinions. And I sincerely hope I'm not on Steve's list, don't think I've ever conversed with him.

Tom,

I have a couple of stupid weight related questions, if you're inclined to educate a non-exerciser (hope to reform).

Michael -- I'll help you out any way I can.  Bearing in mind that I came to exercise as a skinny guy trying to get bigger, not a big guy trying to get leaner.  But I know a lot.  What's up?

Well, I started small and ornery. ( 145 when I got married)

Then I got married, and my wife learned to cook. ( 165 and mostly back and arms).

Now I'm wanting to drop 20-25 lbs or atleast move that weight a little farther north of my belt. ( 200 and a desk job)

Is there anything in particular I should make a point to avoid ( diet), while of course making an effort to adopt some sort of exercise regimen.

I was flipping through the channels last night and came across Bill O'Reilly saying it was a good thing California upheld Prop 8 because if they had overturned it, it would allow people to marry ducks.

I wish I was making that up.

I must have missed all the human/fowl marriages up in New England.

Well, I can't argue against the specific case, of course,  just don't let it cloud you from the future possibility of good on-line relationships.  I mean, at the end of the day, the problem would have been fairly similar if you'd spent the same time IRL with somebody who turned out to be an equal waste of time. (And regardless which, letting go of something not good might sometimes be enormously difficult... absurdly enough.)
Or simply put:  it's always the risk we run when interacting with other people.  But, a risk I think we can never cease to be willing to take.  Unless life as hermits are appealing.

And here's hoping future relationships, whether real life, on-line or otherwise, turn out better for ya, Arc.

As for California...  well...  *sigh*

And as for political threads...  I try to keep off them since a while back, succesfully but for occasional slips.  As someone else said,  I tend to go hear for enjoyment and verbal fisticuffs over politics somehow rarely seem to qualify!
