It's kinda boring, Moyer. The article was about the renovations in my local market and how bad it was.  I wrote a longer letter which they truncated.  It wasn't even in the main section.  But I do like the fatc that I am in the NY Times archive for good.

To the Editor:

When the Upper West Side has enough supermarkets to accommodate it, we'll be happy. Until then, shopping is a chore.

Is it any wonder shoppers at the new Morton Williams Supermarket are annoyed? It's nice to see better lighting and cleaner areas, but overall the experience of shopping there is even more miserable than when the store was the University Food Market.

Ed needs a permanent op ed in a newspaper!

He could be the anti-Glenn Beck!

*************

He's got a brain so he's already one up on Beck.

Just had something funny happen, someone inquired who did the cover for a booklet and that someone was me. That's not the funny part. Part of the funny part is the person doing the asking doesn't much like me. The other part of the funny part is that she's organizing a convention for girls who like gay male romance.

What struck me as funny was my thought when I read the message: "What in the world would she want with that cover? What in the world could that cover have to do with a gay romance/fantasy/sf convention?

Then I looked at the cover again: A mostly naked, handsome, smiling fairy. And then I laughed.

Now, if she would only do something about Swine Flu....

Why?  Could it turn her into MORE of a pig?

That's pretty funny Steve, but how, oh how did you not see how gay that is?
That is a great cover regardless!

Why aren't religious people that aren't hate mongers, standing up and saying ‘You do not speak for me!’  Just as I feel the republicans need to do to people like Rush. I have heard some R's say this Foxx just choose the wrong word to get her point across, bull I think her point was very clear, it's like if you have a turd and wrap it in a beautiful box, it is still a turd and it smells the same.”

I think this is a problem in society in general, and (at least) partly, methinks, the media is to blame. Only the extremists of whichever position is ever truly give a voice in the discussion.  Given the middle grounds and probably majorities no actual position in most argument.  As if the world was black and white and each position situated extremely on either side of very high fence.  I still remember a few seminars/panel discussions on freedom of speech and print which I attended a few years ago on the Gothenburg Book Fair.  A few sane panel discussants who tried to get a discussion going on freedom and responsibility, speech and context, were more or less silenced by moderators who wanted to bring the argument back to “are you for or against it?”
Because such a position is of course by no means extremist, no, and is really helpful for any type of discussion, yes?  Idiocy!  If sane people keep letting the extremist ON BOTH sides in far too many cases do all the talking, there will eventually be no middle ground left to stand on and we can kiss the whole of society good bye, just the moments before launching all the nukes available.

(Ok, sorry for the rant.  Feel better now.  Promise.)

Al wrote (in response to Geoff):
Sigh, if I must, I must.

Duty calls.”

Watch it, Al.  You don’t know where that be-atch has been.  You might contract swine flu.

Steve, the image certainly makes sense on that poster and in that context.  Funny story.

Very wise words my friend.

Had my son's premier for the film he directed, went great after the film we went out to eat with some of his friends and had a wonderful time.

Here we are getting dinner after the show, the red haired girl beside me is Jon's girlfriend, she's a doll and we love her to pieces.
