Bruce, Obama said last night that it's already here so it's a case of closing the barn door after the cows are gone.
In Queens, the kids who came down with it had been to Cancun on vacation and bought it back with them.

The reason the swine flu is so deadly is because it mutated from an animal-borne virus. So we puny humans don't have the same built-in defenses to it that we would to a normal strain of the flu.
I've said this before, but I don't think the response has been overblown. The problem with a disease outbreak is that once it becomes widespread (i.e. a pandemic), it's too late to do anything about it. Your best hope is to isolate it at the very start, so it never reaches that point.

I don't get that at all. Sure, some infected people already have entered the country. But do we really want more flu carriers coming in?
It's like the old saying about, "The first rule of getting out of a hole is to stop digging."

I'm sure they're monitoring the border very closely.

It's the unemployment, Moyer. It sure has freed up my time. Not been in a good place because of it and the Byrne Forum, Facebook and Datalounge have helped me connect with people and not feel so isolated and alone during this tough time. Otherwise, I'd start wearing sweaters on my head and acting like Little Edie from "Grey Gardens."
Plus, the Byrne Forum with its mix of JB and his work, politics and gay guys is the best place to be.

Oh man... didn't know you were still looking for work! I have a friend at
ConEd up there who has gotten a few of his friends work if you want me to
put a word in! And another who works for Disney in the publishing division.
He used to work for DC too.
What kind of work are you looking for?

Well, looks like Miss California is now out on the trail campaiging against gay marriage: link
While she has a right to her opinion, it's getting tiresome that she's being portrayed as someone who had a grave injustice done to her. She's a beauty pageant contestant, not exactly a high contributor to society. While the question shouldn't have been asked, who really takes pageant contestants seriously? It's not as if the past claims of "I want to help bring world peace" have actually done much of anything. Though the past Miss America who helped against child predators, she was noteworthy. Not Miss California though, in my opinion.

Exactly, Jeremiah. And we're supposed to think that she's a martyr because SHE says that she would have won if not for that answer?
