Take care of yourself Don. Flu is no fun. I'm hoping kids don't get sick. My sister was in hospital and there is nothing worse than seeing sick kids.

The college newspaper in my neighborhood reports that a child was found with the flu here. Just what I need. I haven't heard that anywhere else. I'm already washing my hands every time I come in from the outside.
And I have been corresponding with some Forum members who live in Mexico City. The city is for all intents and purposes shut down and it looks abandoned. I am wishing them the best.

I'm suddenly mindful of ANIMAL FARM:
"The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.”

Don, take care of yourself and yours!
And Ed, I totally agree about the whole fear mongering media bit. It's as if they have to "report" it in a manner which isn't factual but rather fearsome... and then (at least seemingly) half heartedly adding that it's not as bad as the bird flu or a few other things. I mean I get the whole "let's take precautions and nip it in the bud" but at the same time Don's description of it seems to say a whole lot about how one should look upon and actually do inside the MEDICAL community, whereas the media cry plague for all their worth. Because after all... plague sells!

I had to use that in my Facebook status update. I'd seen the photo but the caption adds that certain something.

Jodi, that photo is hilarious! Looks like something my boy would do.
On a more serious note, I have to question why the Feds haven't temporarily closed the U.S.-Mexico border during this Swine Flu scare. It seems to me that closing the border until things settle down in a week or two is a no-brainer, and should have been done days ago.

The New Hampshire House of Representatives has just joined the New Hampshire Senate in passing a law allowing for same-sex marriage! However, the Democratic governor stands opposed to the bill; there is a strong possibility he will allow the bill to become law without his signature... I'll take it.

But I have to wonder how many people have been coming down with some
form of flu all along through the years? And is this the same strain
of flu?
---
About 3 to 5 million people get the flu worldwide every year, and 250,000 - 500,000 people die from it annually. However, 90% of those deaths are the elderly. What caused concern about the swine flu is that the deaths in Mexico were mostly young adults, who usually recover from the flu.
Of the 160 suspected swine flu deaths in Mexico, only 8 of them have been confirmed to be caused by the swine flu.
So I think the hysteria over the swine flu is slightly overblown. However, as stated above, having the flu sucks, and I'm all for any measures that decrease the chances of my getting it.
