Jodi called me out of the blue today, because she has the awesome super
power of knowing exactly when I most need to talk.
She has such a thick Indiana accent though. It's too cute.

--------------------------
This happens to me as well.. People from lisbon tend to think of themselves as "accentless" and to speak Portuguese the way it's supposed to be spoken but for my cousins up north I'm the one with the accent and they the ones who speak Portuguese the right way :)
And it's incredible that in a country with only 92.000km3 There are more different accents than i thought possible. In fact there are several different accents in Oporto City alone.

What, and ruin my mystique?

I hear ya, Pedro. I was born and raised in Massachusetts. When I tell
people where I'm from, they ask me why I don't sound like I come from
there. That always rankles me as though I'm somehow an imposter
because I pronounce my "r." The reason I do not have a Massachusetts
accent is because I'm from Springfield and NOBODY west of Worcester has
the accent.
So if anybody ever does meet me in person, prepare to be disappointed by my standard American pronunciations.

Accents are a funny thing. I have the same sort of accent as Ed, since I come from the same area. I had a guy from Tennessee tell me that I had "a real funny accent", as he was talking to me in a thick Southern drawl.
Going to college in NJ sort of bugged me a few times when people asked me to pronounce "car". I told them I would as soon as they can pronounce "Joisey".
I just tell people that while the Boston area is the more affluent area, WMass can at least afford the letter "r" in our alphabet.

Have you watched Parks and Recreation yet?
And add me to the chorus of Jodi rocking the piss out of the cash bar. Also I think Newt Gingrich is a frigging genius. In so many ways he was the perfect counterpart for Bill Clinton. Both were brilliant, both pragmatic. Both were genius politicians (the "contract with america" was political brilliance). And if I had a sister I would let neither within 100 yards of the bastards . . . .
