I took your point too Tom! What you described is not what happened in my
P.E. education, from grade school to high school. If it's happening now, I'm
completely jealous... that's how it should be taught!

I don't know about you guys but I loved Dodgeball. I know all the downsides and why it fallen out of favor, but I loved playing that game when I was a kid.

Catching up....

Sounds like an 80s movie or something.

It wasn’t a choice, Tom, it was all genetic. I mean if we could choose... who wouldn’t want to be gay all the time. Now I’m doomed to being straight and moody instead.
Moyer wrote: “Someones gotta keep makin' the queers right Tom?”
Hang on! I HAVE to make babies now, just for being straight?!?!? Nobody told me this when I signed up for my straight genes (are those related to wrinkled jeans, I wonder?).
And happy 250 everyone!!!
Jodi wrote: “I am so proud of our wonderful thread. See, right here is an example of how good gay marriage is , that one wonderful event brought a group of people, gay or straight, male or female from all over the world and created some really wonderful on line friendships.”
Here, here! (or is that “hear, hear!” I always get confused on that one) Anyways, well said, Jodi. I’m so happy to have been apart of the thread for as long as I have, because it’s been a lovely way of getting much closer to a lot of you fellow JBF:ers. Big hugs all around! :)
Tom wrote: “Also, I think men think of sex differently than women. For me, it's never been an ‘intimacy’ thing (I love my husband!), but more of a biological drive. To put it in the words of my friend Todd, ‘It's just sex.’”
Personally, I’ve never understood the opposition of the argument. As I see it can be both or either. I mean, based on purely physical attraction, you can have “just sex” with someone, but if there are emotions involved there can equally certainly be levels of intimacy involved. To gender differentiate the issue seems far too simplistic to me; in much the same manner that simply label visual stimuli as pornography as purely male has never sat right with me either. Mostly because, having had a huge number of female friends and acquaintances over the years, I’ve certainly met enough who cracks the gender myth on both counts: i.e. women who’ve had sex just to have sex, and also those (sometimes the same) who’ve enjoyed porn immensely.
Moyer wrote: “I can't ever see myself committed to just one person. I feel like my relationship has about run it's course. People just get sick of each other!”
Still, that aspect of it doesn’t necessitate either cheating or open relationships... there’s always the option of serialised monogamy. Or bluntly put, one at the time, though not one “forvever”.
Geoff wrote: “SInce were at page 250 of this thread should this page have like 50 posts in it as its a double-sized anniversary spectacular?”
And if it had been, this would still be in the anniversary spectacular. :)
Tom wrote: “In Early Childhood, PE is much more than sports. Learning to judge distance, to cross the median line (perhaps the most important thing), to gallop, to skip, to run, to throw. The physical being develops as the brain does. BOTH must be nurtured.”
Not entirely sure where you’d draw the line for Early Childhood, Tom, but (without being a particularly PE kinda person myself) I think it does seem like a sound idea... with addition of language. I think it’s immensely important to soak kids in language from an early point... to make every effort that they become interested to take in skills like reading and writing and work on them.
As for the musical bit and all... I think your job is tremendously important. We started with music in third grade over here. And it was the mandatory recorder that we were supposed to learn (and some note reading alongside it I guess). Anyway, the teacher with had in this was absolute crap, a real sadist who relished in bringing up the mistakes of any one kid rather brutally in front of the whole class and use it as an example but in a way that always, ALWAYS ridiculed the pupil. As a result, I dropped the recorder classes and got to have some rather lame ass choir practice (though it’d be a crime to really call it choir). As a result, however, this decision later meant that I was cut off from taking any other music classes through school. Sadly. There are times I wish I could play an instrument, but know I’ll have to settle for just singing, which I do more because I enjoy it than because I’m good at it. Still, good music teachers, obviously also necessary.

I did, too -- and I was super good at it. I was ALWAYS the last guy left on my side, collecting all the balls so the other side had no ammunition.
Yeah, yeah -- even then I had a thing for balls.... c'mon, get it out of your systems.

A guy came into the store where I "work" yesterday and asked for the dodge balls, which are usually red, right? I directed him to the right aisle, and later, noticed he had bought a bag full. They were blue. I had to excuse myself for several minutes.

I can't say I was super good, I was certainly no Patches O'Hoolihan, but I was usually one of the last guys standing. I was adept at catching the balls.

I liked dodgeball, too. I've heard that some cities now have adult dodgeball leagues, no doubt inspired by the hilarious Ben Stiller movie (I'm sorry; I love Ben Stiller. I know, that's probably like admitting to being a Rob Liefeld or Jonas Brothers fan. But I can't help it - I think Stiller is hilarious.)
Anyway, I'd love to give dodgeball another whirl sometime. Kickball was kinda cool, too.

A couple of girlfreinds of mine went to the Dinah Shore event about a week ago (I think) and they had a dodgeball tourmennt on Sunday hosted by Doria Bittle and Romain Patterson of Out Q.
Apparently, a good time was had by all.

I love Stiller too -- and I love Dodgeball: A True Underdogs Story.
Its comedy gold!
