What's ya'lls thought on Watchmen. I think I am the last person on the
planet who never read it. I don't intend to either. The whole deconstruction
of the superhero thing has just gone on too long, and has inspired so much
of what is going on these days it's depressing.

I enjoyed Watchmen.  I read it as it was published, it is very much a comic of it's time.  When it was written, the whole deconstruction thing hadn't become standard issue.  The idea was new, and even better this new ground was broken using characters created for the purpose.  Leaving our Heroes heroic and these existing in their own world.  It is an important work, in that it was one of the first to explore deeper meaning within the superhero genre.

The deconstruction you refer to, I agree should finally stop.  The industry crossed a line when they changed the existing heroic characters to suit the needs of writers that wanted to write "Mature" themes.  A good writer would create all new content.

I read Watchmen for the first time in 2004, i remember that i used to be so curious about the book, because of it's cover. Attracted me and terrified me at the same time. If you have read other books by Alan Moore you'll find that it's a good comic. It's a comic a bit complex, because it has a main story, a story of pirates that runs along the comic and many adds that gives you a lot of info of the character's past life. As a comic, is heavy. I did read it with the purpose of watching the movie, and took me 2 weeks to read it!

You should give it a try.

No point in having thing hanging around while not using it anyway.

Also, Moyer, I pretty much agree with Don's statement on Watchmen.  Enjoyed the comic when first published in Sweden and have since read it in TPB a few times... and will most likely do so again sometime after watching the movie.

I think deconstruction can have it's fun moments, but  A) should be kept the hell away from the regular DCU and MU,  and B) should not only be about picking things apart, but also putting them together again... one of the reasons I so enjoy Astro City.

My soul brother shares the gospel.  Astro City is a gorgeous literary comicbook love letter to the superhero genre.

can't get enough....

Another good series to play with the concepts of "real" superheroes was Top Ten...really enjoyed this, the love of superheroes was evident in the storytelling.

Four inches is embarrassingly small, isn't it? You can be honest with me.

Just an FYI, a womans pleasure button is basically one inch from the surface, so we were serious on the saying "It's not the size of the ship, but the motion of the ocean."

Question? Have any of you ever heard of Mary Jane jokes? I could not believe my best friend had not heard of them before.

Mary Jane was walking on the beach one day and saw a shark swimming around a man. The man was screaming, "Help me! Help me!"

And Mary Jane laughed and laughed, because she knew the shark was never going to help that man!

Mary Jane was at the movies with her boyfriend. He put his hand up her skirt.

And Mary Jane laughed and laughed, because she knew her money was in her shoe.

Mary Jane was playing on the swings one day, swinging higher and higher. Her mother came out and said, "Mary Jane, don't you swing too high, the boys will see your underwear."

And Mary Jane laughed and laughed, because she knew she wasn't wearing any underwear.

Does Deadpool even have a mask in the Wolverine movie?

***

No. That'd hide his pretty face.

Size is everything, it's the only thing lol
