I grew up in Upstate New York and we had "lake-effect" snow -- tons of the stuff. Now that I live in DC, where there's little or none, I'm always amazed when the state completely shuts down when they say there MIGHT be snow.

Al said: You call that snow? The cancelled school because of that?!?!
Yeah, that isn't much. Though to be fair if it happened in Toronto they'd be calling out the army at the moment....
My favorite memory of playing in the snow was diving off of a neighbor's garage into a snowbank. Until the neighbor started noticing and my mom called us back home. Apparently it looked dangerous.

Actually, I'm not sure my mom gave a thought to our safety, that was pretty mild all things considered. The reason we got in trouble was because we brought my cousin Robin along with us, and it was fine if we did something stupid but not if we brought someone else in on the stupidity.
Like Mom always said: 'The reason we had three of you is so we'd have a spare if anything went wrong'. I'm sure she was joking, she laughed while she was saying it at least. Well, more of a cackle really. And she'd rub her hands together and mutter something about 'my pretties'. Strange, now that I come to think of it.

That's funny.

Tom, what did you think of this past week where schools were shutting down for what was less than a footprint worth of snow? On Wednesday, my work gave us the option of calling in if we were unable to come into work. Are you kidding me? Put some rock salt on the ground, plow the streets and get to work. Geesh!

Jeremiah, when I first moved to Maryland from Upstate New York and found them cancelling school on the WARNING of snow in the forecast, I was shocked and amused.
Then I saw these people driving in it. I could suddenly understand why they'd want to keep people off the road.
So, yeah, we shouldn't have had tuesday off -- by the time 3 o'clock rolled around, it had barely started here in the district. Wednesday, however, was an icy mess and though I know I could've driven in it, the local news was full of plenty of crash stories from people who couldn't.

Catching up again (film festival in Gothenburg this week)...

In my own case I think it was mostly to do with us being fundamentally different kinds of people. So in all fairness, I don’t know if it’d include any an dall redheads. She was just the one I landed (and later left). And now I’m happy where I’m at, with no redheads. Well and the occasional dream of Alyson Hannigan, of course. ;)

Really nice looking casa there, Jodi. :)

Oh, Al, snow is all relative to what any community is used to. I remember back in ’95 when we had a huge snow storm here in Gothenburg, people actually skiing down the main street (in the SECOND largest city of Sweden) and trams and busses were at a stand still (personally, I was trapped at my parents house in the woods in the small community I grew up in outside of Gothenburg, missing an exam (as I couldn’t get there)... and missing electricity, very much), as it had gone out. Meanwhile, my countrymen in the far north wondered what the heck the big deal was, since they’re closer to your kinda snow Al, and hence used and prepared for it.
And, as a final proof, when I went to Brighton to live there for the spring of ’96, we arrived there on a day where there’d fallen something like a centimeter of snow (i.e. less than an inch) and the Brits were closing down their schools and issuing radio alerts, because of THAT. While we were wondering... WHAT?
Jodi wrote: ”Yes Al, we all can't be Nanook of the North. LOL”
Now that’s one funny documentary. I love the Pythonesque scene where the whole freaking family is crawling out of the covered kayak, so many people... and dogs.
And then of course, we’ve got Zappa’s version (which I’ll assume appeals to our dear den mother here): ”Watch out where the husskies go, and don’t you eat that yellow snow!”

Tom,
Way back in this thread you alluded to trouble you had getting your calves where you'd like them to be... you also referred to something called "turned out" calves. What are those?
Also, do you ever find you over-do your upper at the expense of your legs because you get better results? I noticed you never ever show good, expansive pics of your legs, not even on your BIGMUSCLE page.
