I go to the gym on page 200, come home and it's already 201 -- what a bunch of wonderful freakazoids we are.
This morning was one of those mornings when I was running late. I'm not a "late" guy -- as a matter of fact, one of my worst faults is that I'm always (ALWAYS) on-time... or early. I'm the first guy to show up to a party, you know?
Anyway, this morning I was running late -- and I was freaking out about it! Eric and I were bumping into each other as we each tried to go about our kitchen tasks (he was feeding the dogs, and I was making and packing my lunch) and I got mad and yelled.
And Eric was hurt. But I was running late, freaking out, so I was just ignoring him and getting my business done. I ran out the door, didn't say "I love you" -- you know, the whole routine. A couple miles later, I was feeling bad about being such a dick, so I called him.
And he didn't answer.
I was like, "Oh, fuck, here we go." So I called again, and he still didn't pick up. And again. The fourth time I left a message, something like, "don't be mad at me. I was an ass. Pick up." When he didn't pick up the next time, I turned the car around and drove back home.
Coming into the house, head hung low, I called for him, expecting either tears or anger, or both. Instead, he's sitting at the table eating his oatmeal with a surprised look on his face. "What are you doing here?"
"I was going up the road and I was trying to call you and trying to call you and you didn't pick up, time after time and I thought you were mad at me and ignoring me cause I was such an ass this morning and I didn't know what the fuck was going on so I came back because I was worried."
"Worried about what? You were late for work and you were freaking out. Now you're REALLY going to be late for work."
"Well, you're more important than work. Why didn't you pick up? I called you, like, six times!"
He laughed. "My phone's in my car."
