Hey peeps! Happy after Thanksgiving! Interesting discussion on musicals
and such... I can't chime in too much on the topic since I'm not a huge
fan, but I will say I love the Hairspray remake, which is probably inferior
to the original, but I just love the happy vibe of the songs, as corporate
driven as they may be, that and that tight little black boy is just so cute!!!

Anyway, took the train up to Memphis to visit Mama Sylvia and Papa
Moyer, and ate ate ate!!! Gorged! I love taking a few days to spoil myself. I
even got a new digital camera out of the deal. Don't you love parents?
Wow I sound superficial, but I do love mom and dad to tears... I hate we
live the distance apart we do, but am glad I can reach them in just a few
hours if I need to. Just too far in between!

How was everyone else's turkey-day or non-turkey-days?

Turkey day? Wasn't that over a month ago? Now I'm confused, though that could explain why I saw the Detroit Lions suck buckets on Thursday before I went to work.

Okay -- so holiday's over -- let's get to the kibbutzing.

What was the most inappropriate thing said to you over the course of the holiday, by family member or not?

Well, being a non-turkey-person in a dual sense*, I'll nevertheless dutifully respond by stating that I've been out cold with a cold the last couple of days and it's still going strong (which is getting rather old and older by the minute).
So here's hoping you lot have had a much better time over your holidays!

Oh, and for the record, the ONE major thing that'd win me over to celebrate Thanksgiving would be pumpkin pie (no Moyer, not you (although you're sweet) but the actual pie). I've only had the stuff on like three occasions, and it's so darn good. Beats the hell out of me, why we don't have the stuff readily available around these parts. Downright uncivilised.

*  What with me a) being a pescetarian and hence not eating fowl, and b) being a Swede and not celebrating Thanksgiving (US or Canadian**).

** Almost typed Candian... now would that be a citizen of Candyland? And how badly would you all want citizenship?

I understand your obsession with Pumpkin Pie Joakim! I am a big fan of
Pumpkin Bread, which my bosses wife is a master of. I hate the whole loaf
she made for me in about four days!!! I figured it was healthy because it
was home made...riiiiiiigggghhhtttt!!!

Tom... I remember my mom talking to me and my dad about her
neighbor "Shelly" who lives across the street from her, and who came
over to have TG dinner with us. My mom used to love her little boy
"Hunter", but Hunter has grown up to be a little demon, not the sweet
little 4 year old she once knew. So she says:

"OH, I;m GLAD Hunter went with his daddy to visit their relatives for
Thanksgiving, I don't want him over here with his shitty little farts!"

Joakim, you are right about pumpkin pie. It's good stuff, as is its Southern sibling, the sweet potato pie. Mmmmm.....

Thanksgiving is a great holiday. I sometimes wish I had dual American/Canadian citizenship so I could celebrate it twice per year!

My wife has cousins who have married Americans, Bruce. They love the dual
Thanksgivings...

For me, it was when my dad said, "So... getting FAT?" to me.
My sister took up my defense before I got the "Excuse me?" out of my mouth.  She said, "Are you kidding?  He goes to the gym every day!"
     "To do what?"
I stood up and said, "You think I'm fat?"
"You must be thirty pounds over weight!"
      "Dad, I'm 230 -- I have a 34-inch waist and a 275-pound bench press.  I might give you 'bulky,' but I'm not 'fat.'"
"You've put on at least 30 pounds since I last saw you."
"You last saw me just as I left for Edinburgh, when I was 216.  I'm not fat!  Do I need to take my sweater off?"

And it went on like that... ah, families...

My dad's other brilliant lines:

"Betty?  That's her NAME?  You named your dog 'Betty?'"

"You still heat with these?" <-- referring to our radiators

Sounds like a true dad if there was one Tom!

My pop had to hang lights on the porch in a very particular order around the
columns on the porch... "Red, white THEN green son!" and six evenly spaced
turns on each (like candy canes). The house is on a hill, so from the street,
you can't even tell what colors the lights really are until up close...lol...
