Musicals are much like any other genre. Some of them are great, and I have
enjoyed quite a few. Others? Not so much. Still some are downright horrid.
(The thought of what Tom just endured with HSM makes me shudder...)

Bwahahahahahaha!
It's been years since water went out of my nose Joakim! I keep forgetting that some times this place can be as good as a Monty Python chapter

Happy to oblige, Victor. What's life without a little water out of your nose, eh?
And Al, I couldn't agree more. Though I'd say that it's perhaps one of those genres* where it can be more easily understood why it's not some people's cup of tea at all.
* Granted that all genres have their own conceits, etc, but some genres have certain conceits that leap more clearly in your face... and if you can't take that, then... well.

One of my favorites is that one that goes..."keep it funny, keep sunny, keep it gay..."

HBO had Sweeney Todd on recently. I'd never seen it before and was looking forward to seeing it. I have to say I was left cold. The music was fine but I just couldn't get into it. I suspect its Burton's fault as he is SO hit and miss with me (love Ed Wood, Mars Attacks! and Big Fish hated Planet of the Apes and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) So I was disappointed. Has anyone else seen it?

I for one adore musical theatre. I know everyone is surprised. The truth is I am the kind of person who will burst into song or dance in the street if that is what I am moved to do.
I saw Sweeney Todd on Cable in the 80's it was the version with Angelia Lansbury (sp?).
Burton's version was OK, the music was well done and the look of the film was stunning...but I remember the version I loved growing up being much more of a dark comedy. I just think Burton's version lacked any humour, and that it was sorely missed.

I’ve not had time yet, though I recently bought the DVD. I’m normally a die-hard Burton fan, though, and I think I own all of his films EXCEPT Planet of the Apes which I absolutely refuse to include in my collection – BAD!

Burton is like Chaykin for me -- I think he's always interesting and his work is always well done -- its just not always to my taste.

Well, I'll forward your thanks to my friend in the Basque country who spotted it.
De nada, Victor, de nada. ;)
