Well, then I was pretty near target, though probably more like dividing by 5 than 4 (and since it's been a while since I was anywhere near gym, mayhap even more, sadly).
Love that kilometer gag. Good chuckle.

I'm pathetically out of shape.
Neither attractive to man nor woman.
Think I'm going to go out and hang myself from a tree now...
Al some women find no muscle guys attractive, to me George Lucas is Hot, hot, hot!
But the bigger thing is, we were quoted by Joakim, we are back in the circle of trust!

I could see that line helping Brian... how does it help Al though? ;)
More Jodi: "But the bigger thing is, we were quoted by Joakim, we are back in the circle of trust!"
And doesn't it feel much more satisfying now that you've worked your way back in? Sometimes not getting any can remind you just how much you need it. ;)

Just eat that honey dew and drink that milk that I gave you upthread, Al. You can take your canoe on a trip up the Alph if you're a good boy. ;)

Purty impressive Tommy!!! I can barely bench 165-175! I feel very fit, but
just can't get past that point. Then again I'm a lil' dude...

I took a weightlifter camping once.* Not sure how much he could press,
but the high 200's sounds familiar. He was certainly built like you are,
Tom.
Turned out none of those muscles helped him carry a pack and a canoe
on a portage, though. He had no muscle stamina. I easily outdistanced
and outpaced him on the first (short!) portage, and discovered that he
needed to rest every couple hundred metres on the long ones. Not only
rest, but take everything off his back and shoulders. Canoe down, pack
down, the whole bit. (Even I have to rest at least once on a long portage,
but I'd never put down the canoe or pack - two much wasted effort to get
them back on!)
Question: Would this be a reflection of the body-building regimen of
reps vs. sustained lifting/activity?
*Not as gay as it sounds, honest!

Yes, although you'd probably be more accurate to call it "anaerobic" vs. "aerobic" training. Body-building (and lifting in general) tends to be in short-bursts rather than sustained power, like one would get biking, hiking, or running. (One of the reasons many well-rounded althletes include both kinds of activities.) Someone who just lifts, although very strong in the short term, will poop out quickly when introduced to an activity that requires cardio. (That's why football players need such stamina, because they have to do anaerobic movements for a sustained period of time.) Does that make sense?

Perfect sense. That's pretty much what I figured, but I wasn't really going on
much actual knowledge. (And me being a former football player should
have known better!)
Thanks Tom.
And you and Eric are welcome to come canoeing with us any time!

We've been talking about doing the kayak-thing (we have friends who go all the time) and I would think it would help fill the void I feel not mtn-biking as much as I did before the ol' ball and chain. And I'd be willing to wager in the wilds of Canada, it would be nothing short of gorgeous!

I have considered starting up an exercise regime...but I'm worried that i will loose too much weight and not be able to keep warm over the winter months...then there is the fact that fat is where the flavor hides...
