Cement floors aren't that bad, they provide a very strong subfloor for tile or hardwood, and if you're going with carpet just by a high quality underlayment and you're good to go. If it's not level, there are several self levelling compounds out there that work perfectly.

We already have crown moldings (all the original wood work in the house still exists and is in excellent shape).
Oh cool. When you see beautiful historic work don't you wonder what the hell went through previous owners minds when they covered such things up or didn't highlight them?!?!

The husband of the admin asst in my division at school is a flooring guy who's already put a fantastic bid in on the job. It's just low on the priority list at the moment (Fourth...)

The previous owner rented the property out to some Sect 8 folks and they trashed quite a bit of it -- broke two toilets (How do you break two toilets???) and wrecked some of the original plaster and the interior of the fireplace. Not to mention the front of the house was completely blocked by four gigantic holly trees which we took down immediately upon moving in. Now, a passerby can SEE the front of the house!
But you're right, Geoff. It boggles the mind!

Thanks Geoff! I grew up with Scooby, so it was a given I'd get him a tag
with his first letter. I swear, and I'm sure ya'll can relate, the money we
spend on that little dog is insane. No need for a new collar, but we had to
spend $15 on a brown leather one, with smooth metal dimples on the
outside.
Then I spend $53 on Advantage flea medicine.
Then I bought doggie ice cream at Winn Dixie for him. He's so spoiled!!!

My mother in law has a townhouse she rents out and the previous occupants, before they were evicted, broke both toilets. They didn't pay their bills and everything was shut off. They still used the toilets, even though it couldn't be flushed. Two adults, four kids (thankfully they were taken away by children's aid) and a big dog. When they finally left everything had to be replaced. She even had to hire a special company to clean up wearing haz-mat suits. Gross!

I love, love, love older homes (meaning 75+ years old). The details and craftmanship is out of this world. Some older homes its as if you live in art the work is so beautiful. And with that I am trying to get some to install in wall/in ceiling speakers in my living room! I am nothing if not a study in contradictions!

Yuck!!!
-------
I suck at renovations... Jacque townehome needs serious work to his
bathroom... we ripped up the carpet and old marbella sink, and put this
cute little IKEA set up, but now we've been walking on the plywood sub
floor for months. We put a new toilet in, but there's still an old funky
beige tub, laminate flooring, and marbella walls incasing the tub. He just
needs to break down and have someone come complete the renovations. I
don't own the home with him, so it's out of my hands.
I did rip down a big ass vine that grew up the entire length of his outside
brick wall this weekend though. It was two stories tall... it was hard, but
his lazy ass was never going to do it. I was very manly. I have sores all
over my arms and hands from being stuck from the vine.
