What behaviors do you share with other Swedes, Lars?

Some differences between you Americans and us are that when you are in an elevator you face the door and we stand however we like. Also in a cinema theatre when you pass others you face the screen. You eat with your fork upside down in your right hand functioning as a spoon.

So far as I know, sexual orientation is not part of the screening process
for Scout Leaders here in Canada.

I'm okay with that!  Eric's off showing houses today and I'm enjoying having the place to myself -- well, the Mighty Stash is here with me.  Gah, how much I LOVE summer vacation!

We've talked about it, Jodi.  Although one of the reasons I like being a teacher is it gets all that "kid" stuff out of my system.  I confess, I enjoy coming home at the end of the day to my own life.  We love our dog (we're adopting a second this month) and we're each devoted to our careers, so I doubt it.  But who knows?

Give us a year and we'll see how that attitude changes.

Tom from what I've learned about you on this forum, you would rock as a parent! My neighbor is a teacher and she has 3 kids all under 7 years old. She said she sometimes feels like she never leaves her job.

Well then Tom, being newlyweds and all its best to take some precautions to prevent unwanted pregnancy.  Oh.  Wait.  Nevermind.

In seriousness, as much as one can tell from a message board, I think you'd be a pretty good Dad.

Many of the other teachers at my school think the same thing, Jodi -- and believe me, I'm flattered.  I think I'd be pretty good as a parent, too.

On the other hand, I'm 44.  When my dad was my age, he had a 21 year old, a 20 year old and a 13 year old.  I'm not sure I should be starting something like that at my age...  I know it's a lot different now than then, and a lot of older people are becoming parents -- [there's a theory that the rise in autism is possibly due to the sperm from older fathers] -- but I don't know.  A baby for me now would mean a legal adult when I was in my late 60's.

College on MY Social Security income?????

You have a passel of kids, Jodi.  Don't you worry about college costs?

Geoff, how old are you?  What are your thoughts about paying for college?  I mean, I know you're a lawyer -- and a Republican -- but damn, that would scare me to death!!!

I have college savings funds set up for both kids, to which I don't contribute as much as I should, but they are there.  I'm 34 so I've got a lot of years still of working.  I am not counting on Social Security, fortunately I have an excellent retirement plan in place.  We earn a good living but we are not rich by any means.  I generally say we earn nationally in the top 1%, but we're the bottom 1% of that group!

College Savings.

1) Start the year the child is born.

2) Automate it so it comes out without you having to do anything.

3) Find a tax advantageous plan. State spoonsored or 513 plan.

4) Realize whatever you are saving is not enough and more will be needed when college hits.

...hope for scholarships?
