Now, WICKED was a great book -- unfortunately, little of the book made it onto the stage. The second book of the series -- CONFESSIONS OF AN UGLY STEPSISTER -- is my favorite of the bunch. Greg Maguire spun a pretty clever retelling there.

I'm reading Matt Huff's BAD MONKEYS right now and really enjoying it! I finished JB's highly recommended STIFF last week and laughed out loud many, many times!
What's on everyone's reading table right now?

Just finished "The Devil wears Prada" and I am now starting "Brisinger" by Christopher Paolini
Hey....I've had a pic of me in my undies posted on the internet too...so there.
OK Talley you must provide details, I am thinking there is a good story here. I saw Toms pictures, and yes in my best Borat voice "Vary Nyce"
Al I am moving this topic to this thread, I googled the place you said you were from, man that is a nice area. Are the houses really expensive there?

Jodi, I went to Heroes Con in Charlotte with a group of guys from IMWAN (excuse my language) in June. My roomie got a shot of me after I came out of the can after a shower as I was standing there in my boxer briefs putting on my deodorant. The pic got some laughs and a couple of fellas with photoshop skills liked it enough to enhance it.
You have been warned.....

Catch up # ninety-eleven...
And let's start off with big hiya to Tiago! As everyone else (more or less)
has already said, you're welcome to join in the merriments any time.
Tom wrote:

become 'Vegetable Monster' because cookies 'aren't good for you.' How
sad and tragic is THAT??? Talk about PC gone amok!)"
In the quiet words of the Virgin Mary, "Come again!" ;)
I mean, couldn't they at least have made a compromise? The Carrot Cake
Monster?
Don wrote:

You know, I never thought of that as a kid (surprise, surprise – d'oh!) but
he's actually the perfect metaphor for kids on a sugar high. Someone was
really thinking when creating the character... not so much with remaking
him though.
This is the kind of bad PC thinking that would strongly have me consider
shifting to Mac (fittingly at my office at Uni today where I DO have a Mac),
what with me being a staunch PC person... computerwise that is...
otherwise, not so much... Ah, ok, I 'fess up, my punning needs some
sharpening. Obviously haven't used it in a wee while.

because the word Lucas (which is a name, spanish for Luke) sounds like
Loco (crazy) and kids that acted like crazy were always compared to
Cookie Monster or Lucas, I know I have not made your life richer or your
knowledge more infinite... but sometimes my mind work that way... I
could be called Lucas too!-"
Huh! Over here we just did a literal translation – "kakmonstret" - but the
Mexican verson makes some sense. And I guess I'm a Lucas too in that
sense, seeing that I am el Suede Loco (and I hope my EXTREMELY limited
knowledge of Spanish got that translation right).
More Victor:
"- and talking about Asterix... There's a book called Asterix Legionnaire
where Asterix and Obelix have to go to rescue Tragicomix (Falbala's
boyfriend) and every time they ask the whereabouts of Tragicomix the
roman ask: Tragicomix with a "T" like Timeo Danaos et dona ferentes?
And finally I know what it means: I fear the Danaans -Greeks- [even if]
bearing gifts-"
Well, well, well, how's that for coincidence. I'm currently going through a
set of HC volumes I bought a while back collecting all of the Asterix
albums (3 per volume) in Swedish (and this time in chronological order).
And this very morning I started on Asterix Legionnaire.
And the Latin quote, if you didn't already know it, is from Virgil's
(Vergilius) epic poem the Aenid.

Fine. I know when I'm not wanted. I'm taking my puck and my net and I'm

Hey, you leave Puck with JB, okay?! ;)
(And now I got to thinking about when JB mentioned somewhere that
some critic was trying to tie AF Puck together with Fairy Puck (a.k.a. Robin
Goodfellow) rather than the more obvious reference of a hard little black
thing (even referenced in his costume, the black that is) called a puck. Big
smile on my lips from that little anecdote... overthinking perchance?)

Wicked is that an adaptation of the novel by the sae name? Don't
remember the author, but I know my girlfriend read another book of hers
(author and title both escaping my memory right now) which she thought
was good and fun.
(and obviously Tom confirmed this)

Isn't it actually Brisingr without that penultimate "e". Just to be a wee
bit anal.
I have the first two in HC, but haven't read either of them yet (though my
girlfriend read and enjoyed the first). Am tempted to get the third one
now though, so as to have them all in HC... yes, the collector in me, who
likes symmetries and unities on the shelves is rearing his head.

Joakim ummmm I'm reading Paolini's new little known book, maybe you haven't heard about it, it's about a Rabbi that sings Yiddish showtunes while performing a Bris, I just left one s out. Should have been "BrisSinger" LOL
You right it is Brisingr, I enjoyed reading the first two, didn't set my world on fire like the Harry Potter series did, but an enjoyable read.

Bris Singer. Too funny!
And housing follows a wide range here. We got our 2-storey, 3-bedroom,
1/2 acre lot place four years ago for significantly under 200K. There is an
island for sale with a 'cottage' (read: mansion) boathouse, guest cottage on a
smaller island connected by a pretty little footbridge on Lake Rosseau for
just under 11 million. In town prices follow a fairly reasonable range, but
then make a huge jump when you get to waterfront. Of course, we have so
many lakes that the majority of properties are waterfront, which skews our
average property value and makes people think the region is expensive.
